Tried to make an easy, closeup ,no spec. lights no flash pic.

So here is the newbie way of doing it. Do you have any tips of any kind plz. tell me :P

This pic was shot in my kitchen, on the stowe ?! ( spelling )
Tried to fool around with whitebalance, but I dont know if it came out alright.

Shot with the EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 lens.
No flash, just the light above.

It looks very well nice. The background is lit, while the subject is in shadow. You might try using a piece of crumpled Aluminum foil to bounce more light onto the pin. The white balance seems to be correct. Some of the others might have more ideas to help. Good job!

Tnx. I like that it is reflected by the glas. I'll try the aluminum Foil and get back to you. :P

It's a similar thing as the picture of the girl that Ed posted. That picture looks good because of the lighting. That's the key. Once you master lighting your subject, you can take great pictures of anything. Needless to say, I'm nowhere near there yet...

I've had good results by shooting in front of a north-facing window. The natural light is more even than in direct sunlight. The window acts like a big light box, especially if you have a sheer drape across it. Here's an example I shot using the technique:

I could have even placed a reflector of some sort just out of the frame on the right to soften the shadows even more by bouncing some of the light back onto the flowers.
