I need help.
I had a piece of paper in my desk (or around it in boxes somewhere) that had the registration key to a piece of software I use on it. I just held it in my hand a few nights ago and said "I better put this in a safe place so I can find it."
Yesterday, I added a 40GB Seagate hard drive to my system to hold my Windows files - so I am now using my 120GB Maxtor purely for storage. And I need that piece of paper.
And guess what?
I can't find it.
So if there's anyone out there who's a little bit psychic like you see on TV and just "knows" where that piece of paper is, please help me out. If not, then please share stories of your own misadventures losing and finding stuff. :)

Look in a drawer, I'll bet you find it.
Years ago when I was working for Motorola, I was installing a microwave communications system in an equipment building for the Georgia Power Company and was working 20-hour days. I had a favorite screwdriver that I used because it fit the fasteners perfectly. I turned around to pick up the screwdriver and I could not find it. After about 3 minutes I was POed. I had not left that building and it was only 16' X 20'. I searched every conceivable place and then I found that screwdriver. It was in my left hand. I packed up my stuff and went to the motel and got a good night's sleep.

When you said those words did you put it in a safe place?
Most people lose stuff like this stacked under other papers.

The paper slid behind the desk. You are going to have to use your strengh to move the desk and you will find the paper standing straight up on the floor. Oh and by the way YOUR WELCOME. Just couldn't resist saying that. This paper wouldn't have some microsoft product key on it would it?

I'm sure you can figure out the key without that paper :devil
All joking aside, try to retrace your steps from when you lost the paper. I do stupid things like this all the time, but almost always find the missing item.

I'm sitting exactly where I was when I was holding the piece of paper. It's not that important... It's just aggravating.

Perhaps because if you keep looking for it after you've found it...there's something seriously wrong with you. :rofl2

I just use the Real Life Comics Database (http://www.enisoc.com/~rlcdb/index.php) - just type in a few words and you should be able to find what you're looking for.
For example, for this one, I just typed in "last place look" and got about ten results. One of them went straight to it.

We've been here a long, long time...
Greg refers to Greg Dean, the author of that comic. Mitchell is the Waz's cat.

Okay, I'll take a shot at it. The paper's in the fridge, and the milk (that's supposed to be in the fridge) is in the big drawer next to your computer desk.
If you're missing any pens, you may want to have your cat autopsied (after killing it of course), and if any money goes missing, try your wasted, shady money-laundering, brother in May-he-co.

Okay.. Waz..
Just sit down and relax at the same spot when you last thought, "I need to put this in a safe place."
Now go back in time before this point. Redo those
things that you did right before the thought of safe place.
Now goto the first thought that comes to mind after the
safe place thought.
Now think of the objects you may have been playing around with at the time.
The point I'm making is no one forgets. You only can't recall and that means you only need to find a link to recall where you put the item you're searching for.
You might have put it back in a box.
You might have put it in a cd jewl case.
You might have put it highup on top some place.
You might have put it in your pants pocket.

Well, I've had my wife clean things up before and tossed out papers I could never find. That and I've had some stuff turn up in another part of the house that I know I've never been before.
Stuff just don't get up and walk away. ;)

My dad did that once.
Now I handle all the stickers for everything.
