Pretty good!

Congratulate her for me!

I was chattign to someone on a MA Forum who studies the same art, he is getting back to me on his history.

I am still recovering from yesterday - Our teacher was away so the senior student beasted us by making us run through all the Kata's consecutively and then loop them. Pretty intense but my form was up to it!

:devil

Still, 1.4Kg of Sword takes it out of you after 1 hr and 30 mins!

You're tire but it's a good tired.:thumb

She's has advanced one dan. 5 of the six Grand Masters voted to advance 2 dans and waive time in rank requirements but she turned them down. She told them that in her opinion she was not ready for that level because she needed more work and was not satisfied with her progress to that level. She is her own worst critic. But that attitude got her a ton of respect even from the Grand Master that voted against the idea. All six voted to give her the rise in rank to 9th dan which also required the waiving of the time in rank requirement. Her own Grand Master was not part of the judging and was very pleased with her performance.

I won't know about the other style until later today.

Excellent news!

My Sensei is in a similar boat. He was raised in rank in a similar fashion as he impressed the Soke of the school with his Zanshin and skill. It was done outside of the federation which got right up the noses of the other Masters.

The old sensei was a real character though and shouted at them as he said, he invented the style so it was damn well up to him!

Good times!

I think her Grand Master is the grandson of Hwang Kee or some other close relative. But he was just an observer. He had the Grand Masters from the other highly respected dojangs to sit in judgement. I don't know if this was in or out of the federation but they will be little if any complaints as she does not compete. I think the 9th dan is also referred to as Grand Master which will let her be a more effective teacher to her crew and other students.

That's great.

Interestingly My sensei studied under the first Korean Instructor in Tae Kwon Do who arrived in Australia back in the Seventies. He lived with him for about 5 years.

Pass on my congratulations! Good to hear.

As someone who's had to go through dan-rank testing twice, even though in a different martial art, I can appreciate the work involved in the accomplishment.

It's been suggested to me that I should look into testing for my san-dan when (and if) I'm in Japan later this year, but I hardly feel up to it. Again, you are your own worst critic!

Thanks so much guys. I was going to post but I see Ed beat me to it.:rofl2

Maro, 3 out of 3 in Tae Kwon Do also. Since Tae Kwon Do is directly descended from Tang Soo Do the 3 grand Masters that tested me observed the Tang Soo Do matches. I was raised to 8th dan in Tae Kwon Do.

I'll ask Brandi to post her disciplines later. They are on here somewhere but they have changed somewhat since they were posted. She has 9 different disciplines that she is black in.

Congratulations, Brandi! I don't understand much about the disiplines, but do understand how much training and dedication it took to get there. It's a wonderful feeling to be recognized by the best of the best, in any field. Well done! :luxhello

Here you go guys. This is the latest and what I consider complete list. I was thinking as I compiled this list and I've devoted almost 50% of the total time that I've been alive to the Martial Arts particularly in my pre-teen and teen years. I think I'm going to cut back some and devote more time to something that is really the most important thing in my life now...My husband. I know we've mentioned it but we want to start a family in the next couple of years so it's more time for him and status quo for the Martial Arts.:)

Korean styles

Tang Soo Do - 9th Dan
Tae Kwon Do - 8th Dan
Hwa Rang Do - 6th Dan

Japanese styles

Aikido - shichidan (7th Dan)
Judo - rokudan (6th Dan)
Ju Jitsu - 6th degree

Okinawan style

Shotokan Karate - 6th degree

Chinese style

Shao-Lin Kung-Fu - 5th degree

Israili style

Krav Maga - 4th degree

I'm also well versed in:

Escrima
Capoeira
Muay Thai
Jeet Kune Do
Hapkido
Savate
Choi Kwang Do
Ninpo

Martial Arts is for up close and personal. As Brandi always says, "No matter how well trained the Grand Master is the kid with the gun wins if he is out of hand, foot or thrown weapon range.":jawsdown
