DUDE!!!!!! thats the camera my dad wnats to get to replace the one he busted, it would be great if you could go everything you LOVE and everything you hate

we would be using it for action shots for dirtbiking, mountain biking, so if you could take shots of moving cars maybe kids on bikes doing jumps and whatnot and tell me how the quality is for the shots you get off, its 2 shots a second i think?

i usually use it for landscape shots such as sunrises sets, mountainous areas,

:D you rock lucky guy

Wilco!

However, I only have 3 lenses with me right now...

105mm Micro-Nikkor
16mm Nikkor Fisheye
24mm Nikkor

Not the best for action photography, nope...

But still, I'll try with the 105mm tomorrow :Blah

Dont you just hate the waiting-time on all the "#¤% batteries. Y can't the store stock up on charged batteries.

And to get the best battery time you have to charge them for 24 hours, what's that all about :D

Yeah... I know... it's depressing!

Wait a mo... are you sure I should leave it for 24 hours? It should be done in 2...

As a matter of fact, it's done now... how much longer should I leave it in there?

Read your manual. It says not to store the batteries in a charged state. Charge them and use them until empty once a year, if you have extras. I didn't realise that myself until I was reading through the G2 manual. The batteries for the D70 are the same as the BP-511 that Canon uses, so I imagine the same thing applies.

Yes, FINALLY, I got some shots!

Whooooo!!!

Alright... firstly...

The weather was horrible. You'll see in the coming photos...

Second, all of the shots were taken in a car, shooting outwards, at times travelling at about...ooh... 130km/h.

Thirdly, I only had my new Sigma 105mm Macro with me. No zoom! :Sigh

Anyways, heres the first shot to show the weather...

I got the body only, as the 18-70 is useless for me (underwater photography primarily)

$7500HK... $962USD

I use a Lowepro Nova 1, as it's big enough for the body with the 105mm macro and has space for my 16mm Nikkor Fisheye.

Also, it will fit the Sigma 70-300 when I get it...

The case is just for stuff like sporting events... on diving trips, I'm going to get the Super Trekker AWII (If you want to know just how much i need to bring for that, take a look at my F100 thread...)

Underwater photography is all about primes, apart from the Nikon 12-24 or the 70-180 Macro...

Wicked camera you have there :thumb. I've been looking and waiting over the last little while on these new Digital SLR's and this one looks fantastic.

So... I called my local camera shop today and they are out of stock until mid June. These things are really selling like hot cakes!

Here's a guy who had a Canon Digital Rebel and returned it for the Nikon D70: more info (http://www.benlovejoy.com/photography/cameras/d70.html)

I have not decided on the Canon Rebel D300 or this one yet. I might just wait and not get either. After reading many reviews on each, they both have their strong points.

Well, the D70 is better in most ways...

As for lenses, Canon does indeed have a wider and better choice. (70-200s come into mind)

Over here, Canon is selling their 300D Kit fpr about $1200CAD, which includes a Lexar 512MB CF... not a bad deal! But it's the only way to get more people to pick it over the D70...

Damn, I want that...OK, I was looking at the move to DSLR, but I cannot justify spending $400-$500US on a lens  . The F717 that I have has a Carl Zeiss lens that are supposed to be the best. Now, what does an add-on lens on a DSLR camera offer that the fixed lens on a F717 or a F828 cannot? The optical zoom seems to be the same, the picture quality doesn't seem much different (from pics I have seen over the web). Sorry for the noob question, but what justifies someone spending that much coin for a lens?

You cannot get a 12mm lens to work on the F717. No ulta-wide angles.

Likewise, you cannot get a 600mm on the F717. No ultra-teles either.

Not saying that I will get those lenses, but my options deem it available, if I ever want to go to Africa and shoot some birds, or if I want to get an ultra-wide lanscape shot...

in one of ur replies, u said the digital rebel sells for CAD$1200. is that canadian dollar u'r talking about? guess u meant HKD, rite?

anyways, Rod, i once heard from a guy @ Henry's (camera store) that i should spend my money on the rebel and save up for a good lens. my advice after reading all the posts in this thread, buy both if u got da dough... :devil :nuts :camera hope ya dun mind me being sarcastic. :wavey

I have not decided on the Canon Rebel D300 or this one yet. I might just wait and not get either. After reading many reviews on each, they both have their strong points.

Go for the Rebel. I did 4 days ago and man I am a happy camper. THe D70 is sweet but there is so much hype surrounding it due to it being camera of the year. It does suffer big time from moire/artifacting. Also, the Wasia Hack for the 300D unlocks all the locked dormant features on the 300D essentially making it a 10D. THe 10D and the 300D were identical other than the Magnesium body on the 10D and Canon knew their 10D sales would plummet if the 300D has the same features so they "disabled" them on the 300D. Well with the hack you get everything that the 10D can do on the 300D. It makes a huge diff over flash control, now ISO 3200, metering etc. The 300D polycarbonate body may seem cheap and light but it is very solid and has a alloy chassis underneath. Trust me, the 300D is hundreds cheaper, has a $100 mail-in rebate, and is every bit as good as the D70 in the photo quality dept. The ISO 100 on the Canon is so creamy, silky smooth! :thumb

I bought the 300D kit w/lens new on eBay with a vertical battery grip (something the Nikon does not have) for the bottom and an extra battey for $700 US. So worth it. Nikor lens are sweet but over priced IMO.

Here is a side by side comparison. Now some things will be different and even better on the Canon after the hacked firmware is installed:

I am going to second the note on the Hack for the 300d, it is a MUST have. My fav features are AE lock and locked mirror control (forgot the actual name). :smokin

It's all a personal preference I suppose but after months of research, I chose the Canon because for the price on the Canon, I could get the kit plus some really good lenses for the same price as the Nikon kit. So I am going to buy the Canon 50mm 1.4 as a prime and the Tamron SP 35-105mm f/2.8 Aspherical Lens as well...still cheaper than the Nikon kit at the price I bought mine for.

Nice camera, Bobenis! You and Ed think the same way on cameras at least. :devil

I'm leaning toward a Pentax istD or DS myself. I've been gathering Pentax lenses for years and really can't justify switching brands. Plus the older lenses are much cheaper than Canon or Nikon ones. (Or they were before the dslrs came out. :bangcomp ) Now to somehow scrounge up the money for one... :)

Well, my G6 is a really nice camera, but digital has failed to please me.

Nothing beats the feel of my good old Olympus OM10 and all my old manual-focus lenses.

Took it to the airshow the other day and came home a very happy camper. Course, I took the G6 as well but those photos lack the contrast I have with film.

It's a real bummer in NZ, $10 for a 24exp hundred/asa film.

In thoise cases, thank god for digital, except for when my sister takes 330 photos of one cat on one staircase.

Can go on and on arguing about cameras.

Money grows on trees man....grow pot. :thumb :lmao :WinkBeen there...done that... My health is too bad for the stress of that these days. It's big business around here, but...nah... :Nope

I'll have to come up with something else. Pentax is supposed to be introducing a $500 DSLR this February. If it uses the old lenses and isn't TOO bad, I might go for that. I always wanted a digital version of my MZ-5n. It's interface is just about perfect. It shouldn't be hard for Pentax to produce something like that.

Next month all the new cams are going to be announced and the 300D successor will be the 300XT/350D - same CMOS as the 20D with enhanced features. Also the Nikon D70 will get a younger brother, the D50. I have a reliable source. :Wink
