Well, heres the story as best as I can remember. It was a gorgeous saturday afternoon in sunny London, I was drinking with my nearest and dearest when the basketball I was shooting hoops with went over next doors garden. So I proceeded to jump over the fence, got to near enough the top and felt something twang in my abs area and subsequently fell off. So I stopped doing free weights for a few days, and my abs started to feel a bit better.
I went to the gym tonight to continue my usual workout schedule and all was well until I did 10 reps (not sure on the weight) put the bar back on the rest, and tried to get up. I just didn't have any muscle at all in my abs, and it hurt like hell. Still does pretty much.
So does anyone have any tips as to what I can do besides try to rest. Bare in my it hurts to lay down so sleeping is going to be a pain tonight :(

You probably pulled a muscle. Rest and not do any workouts for 10 days. Also, you might want to ice it as well. After the 10 days, gradually do workouts again and increase the amount everyday. I hope this helps.

It sounds like you pulled a ligament or maybe tore a muscle. I would rest for a few days and if doesn't get better see a doctor that specializes in sports medicine. When you start back you might want to ease into your routine.

The plan at the moment is to stop totally with weights and go full on cardio to get fitter.
A week or two off of the weights sounds good, I hope I don't wake up tomorrow morning and find I am unable to move :(

Well, you can write off those long wild nights in the brothel for a while...

Yah, been there man, the worst is when you pull those muscles in your groin. :devil
What you have is probably not a pulled muscle, but rather a torn muscle.
Just stop and rest for one week. On the following week be sure to stretch out your abs good and slow before working out on them again. :thumb
