I really like Adm. Black's benediction. And the choir. That was really, really good.

I missed that part. I made a contract to myself to go to the gym. I watched until right before his coffin was taken inside.

Being that Reagan was born in Illinois, that picture reminds me of a lone, old, knotted Illinois Oak standing proud over the farmland where it has been for years and saluting the ones that made the land great.

He will be missed :Crying
I saw the casket being taken off Air Force One...and the cermony with that...then I had to take my little girl to TBall...
This is the 1st(and for many others here) State Furneal I have ever seen for a President. That last one was in early 1973. Before I was born. So all my life...I have never seen a Presidental funeral. No one has died in my life.
Quite amazing....
And to think he was born about an hour from my house...amazing. Really really amazing...
May you rest in Peace.

The actual funeral will be Friday. All of the ceremony that has taken place will pale in comparison on Friday.
I remember the funerals for Presidents John F. Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon. I also remember the funeral for our much loved U. S. Senator Richard B. Russell (D-Ga.). All were very moving and solemn.

No one has died in my life.Richard Nixon.
Now I have posted that it is sad but I want to mention something without upsetting anyone.
Deep Breath, here goes:
On the news there are interviews with people who have gone to see the casket and they are hysterical (Medical definition). Why is that? Yes it is sad that he has died but they did not know him personally and are reacting like a close family member.
The same thing happened after Diana died in Paris.
No disrespect meant but I am curious about this phenomenon.
I'm off to lunch but I will check back in an hour or so.

As for Diana, I do not know. Although, I did respect her passing, she was not someone that I would consider getting emotional over.
President Reagan was one of the most popular presidents in a long, long time. Many of us look back and saw what he accomplished as president and his eternal optimism for this country. To some, getting that close to the president as he is laid to rest, is an emotional experience.

I just watched the 60 minute interview on Mr Reagan... I must say, I only wish I had known more about him while he was on this world...
But now he has gone to a better place...
May he rest in peace by God's side...

It was a very nice service they had. Former Prime Minister Thatcher's words were just wonderful. The service was an interesting combination of the secular and sacred. I'm glad I bothered to tape it.

The final ceremony was beautiful.
It was especially touching to see Mrs. Reagan place her head on his casket and cry at the very end.
Brought a tear to my eye.
Godspeed, President Reagan.

Yes it was a beautiful ceremony. And when Nancy placed her head on the casket...it too brought a tear to my eye. I wanted to leap thru the TV and just hug her as her children did.
The Reagan children did a wonderful job with their speeches.
I forgot about Nixon. He was president when I was born. I asked my mother why they didn't do a big furneal for him and she said he left office in shame.
May you rest in Peace President Reagan. You will be missed.

I forgot about Nixon. He was president when I was born. I asked my mother why they didn't do a big furneal for him and she said he left office in shame.No. It was because the Nixon family requested that it be more private. They didn't want the braying of donkeys to drown out all the good he had done throughout his Presidency by bringing up the one foible of it during their time of mourning. Grand or bland, it's up to the family.
