Subject's question... and what is your dream car?
For me, it's the Carrera GT...

well...they made the rx-8 to be a sports-car "sedan". mazda didnt have anythin in that line. the 6 series wasnt cuttin it, and the market for sports cars were greatly increasing.
rx-7's w/ the 13b motor had poor mileage. it was messy, expensive to repair and inefficient. gases between the chamber were "lost" during compression. with the new setup of the rx-8, bigger port valves fixes many many problems.
can u imagine 250hp naturalli aspirated in a 1.3liter engine?
im not a fan of the rx-8 myself, juss sayin its NOT A HORRIBLE CAR.
its voted the best car of 2003.

Agreed. I drove a Pacific Rim modified RX-8 (re-valved, twin turbo) that was around 380hp. Essentially the same setup (limited to 320hp) is available to consumers in Japan now.
The car lacked a little in the torque area off the line (consequence of the overall lack of mass in the engine) but once you hit 3000RPM it just takes off. Handling, even on the stock RX-8, is superb, and the PacRim car had a 1.5" drop on Tein struts (kit about $800 US, and end-user installable, rumored to be a factory option in 2005) and behaved in a way it may as well have been a race car.
Overall the RX-8 is a great platform that really isn't getting what it deserves (in terms of performance options) in the US and Canadian markets yet.
Oh, and my choice as for dream car, the ItalDesign Morray:
http://www.arabam.com/fuar/2003/cenevre/italdesign-moray_xx.jpg
Not for any particular performance reason, I just love the look of the car. Very reminiscent of the Corvette Stingray body, but modern. It flows.

its voted the best car of 2003.Poor miileage yes. Expensive to repair and inefficient. Well running pre-mix in the gas helps to keep the apex seals sealed which in turn helps keep those gasses from being lost between chambers. As far as being expensive to repair it's only so if you take it into the shop. Something I probably wouldn't do unless it was for something un-engine related. The rotary engine is a very simple piece of equipment. Three moving parts vs. the what, forty, in your standard piston engine?
Mind you I can't really back up my reason for being so attached to wankels so well. It's probably all the testimonials from people who were able to rebuild the engine with less than three tools and their haynes manual.
Mind you I'd still like to take one of those nifty mid-80's Corolla's out for a spin, I hear they're great fun.
(can you tell I'm not a big fan of "super-cars?")

I am a mega car fan as you can probably tell by my avatar and sig.
As for an ultra-dream sports car, it would definetly have to be Michael Schumacher's soon to be championship winning Ferrari F2004.
http://www.thescuderia.net/images/F2004/Nurburgring/b11.jpg
As an ultra-road legal sports car it would be a tossup between the Ferrari Enzo and Carrera GT. I would have to test both though. Now that I think about it, since I'd get the F2004 it would need it's baby cousin the Enzo:
http://www.itana.it/images/ferrari/ferrari%20enzo.jpg
For a grand touring car I would have to have the Pagani Zonda:
http://www.automobilismo.it/edisport/automobilismo/notizie.nsf/fb4ceae52c4eb505c1256bd400357b62/856a44a4584fe778c1256d67004e9886/$FILE/zonda_800x600.jpg
For the daily driver car it would be the Aston Martin DB9:
http://www.in.gr/auto/parousiaseis/foto_big/ae_AstonMartin_DB9_08.jpg
Well I think you guys are getting the idea of my dream garage, and I drive an Infiniti G35 6MT by the way, the others are a bit out of my budget.

Im a real "fan" of the 1985-88 BMW 5 series cars, they aren't steamlined like the newer cars, but they had a look all their own. I own one (my dream car), and to me their stance is like that or a shark. Like a greatwhite on the highway... The 528e that i have is just a measly economy car, but its got a little power when i need it. But it has its troubles too! When its all finished up it will be a little more powered than it is now! Im hoping for about 250hp total... Which isnt bad for an 80's economy car. Also since i have a small scratch in the front drivers fender, im going to get it painted in a red, instead of its delphine metallic. With tan leather, and the best sound system that will fit in the current speaker buckets. It should be nice when its done!
I would pick the Mazda RX-8. Rotary engine. 250bhp and runs >10km a litre.
The only thing I would need to change is some 20 or 19 inch whatever is the biggest I can get, might be some momo or BBS thread rims. And then some mother of a stereo. That would be it. :thumb

Do you mean DRFT? If so, talk to Nobuteru Taniguchi in the Cali office. He speaks pretty good English, but he does a lot of mechanical testing in the Kansai test facility, and he drives their US drift event S15 car. If you want to know anything about rigging out a Sylvia, he probably can explain it to you in great detail. Tell him you know Nick from SUB Culture.
Also, I think you'll find that the 1994 240SX frame and body is best set up to take an S14 conversion. With the S15, you'll have to change the cooling locations pretty radically to make room for the lower, wider intercooler and hardpipes the S15 needs per mechanical locations, plus some pretty nasty motor and transmission mount changes could be in the works. An S14 front clip with an SR20DET and manual gearbox would slip right in with very little work except on the nose to lean the radiator back a few inches so the front faschia clears, but that can be done with rubber mounts.
Added: This is my brother's '96 that he just got, probably going S14 over S15, too. '97 and above (darn near impossible to find in the US) is the ideal platform for the S15.

I am an old school muscle car guy. i will vote my fav to be the daytona charger. just like the superbird but it was made by dodge. and if u dont know what it was it had a huge wing on the back and a rounded nose made of endurabumper. petty used it to win circle track. also it was the car that nascar made dodge quit makeing b/c nothing else could beat it. chevy would never be this high on nascar if dodge didnt have to quit. i love that car.
I sometimes get the feeling that a DeLorean has godlike status in the states? Almost at a higher level than a uhm... lets say, a mint condition 67' Mustang .... uhhh... could get along with that car as well. Then it would be a babe magnet only.

You'd do better to get the right year of the car. If you want that tail section, you're talking major body work. The 1990-1994 tail looks very different.
My brother also has a 1990 240SX Coupe (currently sans engine)... there's talk of doing an S13 internal conversion, but we're not sure what's going to happen yet. We have a new KA24E I4 in the works already, and may just go with that, supercharged. The cool thing about the 240SX Coupe (vs. the hatchback) aside from it's rarity is that it has all-wheel steering. It was designated the "Fairlady" body in Japan.

Incorrect. The "HICAS" option was not available in the states during that run of the 240SX.
The 1990 240SX Coupe came stock with the suspension, brakes, and steering of the Japanese Fairlady (180SX, I believe). Trust me. It was a heck of a time trying to find even brake pads for it. I ended up going to a Nismo dealer on-line for help.

After going over it with some pals of mine we've decided that rotary's, while great lil' engines, just aren't going to be good news for a first time car-owner.
Seeing as how the original criteria regarding shopping for one's first car was cheap, reliable, and good on gas, the 7 had to be dropped.
Well pondering the local auto classifieds has shown me that the old mid-80's Corolla GT-S' (AE86, Hachi-Roku, that car from Initial D aren't as rare as we though. So I've got a new target.

Ah, yes... there's a nice car. My friend's STi is a sweet ride. I still prefer my 3000GT to it, just as far as weight contributes to handling, and the fact that I've got more horsepower, but when Kevin finishes his turbo upgrade, he's going to be serious competition at the track.
