A Chinese military doctor, who exposed Beijing's coverup of last year's SARS epidemic is reportedly under 24-hour supervision and being forced to undergo "brainwashing sessions".
The Washington Post newspaper says Chinese military and security officials are forcing elderly physician Jiang Yanyong to take part in intense indoctrination classes.
The newspaper, quoted by the AFP news agency says offcials are also interrogating him about a letter he wrote in February denouncing the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.
The report says 72 year old Mr Jiang and his wife, Hua Zhongwei, also a doctor, have not been seen since government agents detained them last month while they were en-route to the US embassy in Beijing to obtain a visa.Didn't someone say that China is the wave of the future? God help us...

Ya, I suppose other countries never do anything like this either! Those prisoners in Cuba are totally different.

China is a very beautiful and diverse country. My friends live and work there and my girlfriend is from Taiwan and has many stoires. Evey country seems to have its bad but some like to hide and brush it under the proverbial rug to keep people blind out of fear of losing something or looking like liars. The truth always has a way of seeping out however.

The main difference is that China is undeniably the future. Such a massive nation, with such a huge population that is still opening it's doors for developement.
That is what makes things like this such an outrage.
If you don't think China is doing things wrong, please, try explaining to the 500 Thousand people who took it to the streets on the 1st of July.
The old guard will die off soon - the amount of money that floods Sydney is unbelieveable. A lot of Uni students here are from Mainland China and they have cash to burn.
I can't see the govt cracking down on them when they eventually return to China, they'll not want to modify their lifestyle

Was that the incident in China when some college students or a boat load of protesting minors were confronted by the Chinese military and police with tanks and stuff and almost everyone was killed who was protesting? I just wanted to clear that up because I'm not familiar with that incident.

Yeah... first off, the prisoners in Cuba have been seen. And there's no brainwashing. Oh, yeah, they're also not citizens of the nation who is holding them. And they were all detained for suspicion of involvement in terrorist acts and organization.
So, it's a little different situation.
