My parents just got back from a trip up to Cass, West Virginia and saw several of these. I thought some of you might enjoy seeing the locomotive. It's rather different than most...

The Shay's were the favorite of the logging railroads because they could put a lot of tractive effort to the rail in a relatively small package.

Yes, they, like any steam locomotive, required a tremendous amount of maintenance.

Ed, the Cass Scenic is one of my favorites.
