$17,500.00 US will get you one home. I'm currently drooling over the BMW R 1150R Rockster (http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/machine/models/model.jsp?model=r1150r_rockster). It's in my price range.

Video of the k1200s running Nurburgring (http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/beginners.html) in under 8 minutes. Click here (http://www.bmwk1200s.com/video.htm).

Original information at Nurburgring.org (http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/beginners.html)
The Ring is, quite simply, the ultimate driving experience. 13 miles and at least 73* bends add up to what even racing drivers describe as the most demanding circuit in the world. It's hard to describe just how good it is until you've been there, but if you can imagine your favourite mountain road and your favourite race-track, and combine the best bits of the two, you'll get the general idea. (*There are various different figures quoted, depending on what you count as a bend - look at the photo to get an idea of the difficulty of counting them - but the official number is 73.)

Harley's are pretty bikes that you work on 90% of the time and ride 10%. Some Harley's cost more than BMW's. You get more bike from BMW by far than you do from Harley. I know, I have a friend who owned a Harley for three years. Sold it, bought a BMW because he got tired of maintaining the Harley. In the two years he's had the BMW it has been ridden to Canada and all over the US. The Harley, in three years, never even got close to that much riding. The BMW has a much smoother, much more stable ride, much more reliable drive train and engine.

Two pieces of technology, just to start with, on BMW's sport bike is their suspension and shaft drive which no one else does because they can't figure out how to impliment because of weight and handling issues.

Ducati's are nice, fast, purdy bikes. That being said, they are also expensive and have high maintainence costs. Every 6000 miles you have to have their valves adjusted by a specialized Ducati mechanic and if this isn't done, your asking for a prematurely worn out engine. Those valve adjustments are not cheap.

If I was going to drop that much cash, it would be for the k1200s. I can't afford it so I'll probably end up with a used BMW r 1150r Rockster or a Honda.

I love sport bikes, the engine sound is to die for. I love the high revs, sounds like a mini F1 car. I wish my road car could sound like that :thumb

I don't ride a bike and am hesistant to learn because I know if I did, I would be dead within a few years judging by the way I drive and the speeds like to go. My friend has a bike and every day on his way to work, he usually hits 130mph and once if I remember correctly he hit 150mph on his way in :jawsdown He said he doesn't expect to live to 30.

No, I didn't. The way your post came across was that BMW was just a name. My response was that it is not just a name. There's a lot behind that name.

I'll probably get a Honda or a Suzuki. I really like the GSX-R's. :thumb

No...but I would like to ride one. I'd rather have an Aprilia or the BMW K1200s if I had the money to blow. I'm not into putting the bike in the shop every 6k for valve adjustments.

I've found the bike I really love and am seriously trying to figure out how to get it. Just got done looking at it this morning. It's the Yamaha FZ1 (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products/unitinfo/2/mcy/5/7/0/yamaha_fz1.aspx). I love that bike!

The 919 is a nice bike...looked at it a few times. It has one of my closest friends name written all over it but not quite mine. I like everything about that bike but the front end of it. I like either a cruiser or sportbike and the 919 has more of a "retro" look to it. It's not me. The FZ1 has full fairing available to make it look just like a true sportbike and since it shares the same engine (diff cylinder heads) as their superbike YZF R1 the performance is there. You just get to sit more upright in a more comfortable seating position on the FZ1. Almost the identical system as the 919 is to their CBR1000 the FZ1 is to the R1. I just like the front end on the FZ1 and the ability to add the full farings if I want. The 919 did not offer that.

But your brother has a kickass bike. :KICK ASS

Well a very nice deal has landed in my lap. A friend has a 1997 Triumph Daytona T595 (the 595 is a 955cc engine NOT a 600cc) for sale that is in immaculate condition (only 16k miles). It's chain is almost new, the muffler and the taillight were slightly damaged when the bike was rear ended by a truck. It was only a slight impact so that was the only damage. That is getting fixed this week (new muffler cost is almost $600 as it's factory carbon fiber) along with a new rear tire.

Very sexy...black on black, single side-arm. Test rode it last night and it is very comfortable for a sport bike. It is by far the most comfortable sport bike I've sat on to date.

If I can get the loan, I'll post pics as soon as I get it. :)
