Hello, everyone. My family just got home from a very enlightening event, the U.S. Army 172nd Transportation Family Readiness Group picnic. My wife's family was helping to put it together (which stuck me chatting with folks all day long).

The 172nd Transportation Unit is based out of Omaha as part of the Army Reserves.

I was surprised to see the diverse group of people (about 200 present who signed in), who represented every facet of life and creed, with a common purpose. It was great. The Omaha Red Cross Unit provided a computer system to record and deliver video messages to all of the Iraqi-bound servicemen (and women!). On top of the games of the afternoon, many photo sessions were made to capture the event to be sent to Iraq.

As a treat, one Army man was in town on leave, my wife's friend Ann. He, though not Transportation, was eager to take pictures and try to get "family goods" in when he went back this Thursday. Is combat unit deales with the 172nd exclusively for "take along maintenance" because of the 172nd's reputation as a zero-casualty in-action group. Good to hear outstanding things about my brother-in-law's people.

Just a bright spot in my day. Cheers.
