I've had enough of computers. More than enough. I'm just sick sick sick of them.

I'm sick of jerking around with installing software. I'm tired of stupid hardware developers (I'm looking at you, Intel) forcing crappy new hardware like Socket 775 and PCI-Express on us, and BTX, and making us upgrade, for the only reason that their parts get too hot, or whatever. I'm sick of installing Windows and then doing Windows updates, and having the Windows updates **** up stuff on the Windows install.

I'm tired of ordering new parts that are DOA right out of the box (happens far too often). I'm tired of arcane errors. I'm through with buying games, only to find out I need a 200MB patch just to load the thing.

I'm sick of worrying about if this chip will work with that board, or if that video card will do this, or if I have enough memory to do that.

And don't even get me started on viruses and spyware.

I wish I could find a job somewhere where I don't ever have to look at or use another computer in my life. January of 2005 will mark ten years of me being on the internet, and I've been using computers for 14 years, and I've had enough. I've spent too much of my time on these stupid things. Fixing them. Installing stuff on them. Upgrading them.

Enough.

Why are computers so damn much work? Why do we have to worry about viruses, and drivers, and spyware, and part compatibility, and even being able to order a damn part and have it work out of the freaking box? What is so difficult about just plugging a computer in and having it work? My toaster works like that. My car works like that.

Thank you for listening. I just needed to get this out. I used to love computers. But after reformatting the tenth computer this week because of **** like Bargain Buddy and Cashback and **** like that, and having stuff not work and just generally fixing stuff that shouldn't break, for the money you pay for it, I've had enough.

I'm going to take a deep breath now and relax. I've been screamed at enough. I'm just going to waste time till it's closing time, and then go home and play XBox games. Which kick ass.

I seriously need a change in my life to get me living again.

Sorry.

I can't decide if I want to close this thread or not.

I don't want anyone to take it personally or anything. I just needed to get that off my chest. I can't deal with computers any more. It just seems like too much trouble for a stupid box of metal and plastic.

Waz, you could always run for office. We need a good politician. :lmao

The working conditions would not change but the benefits have got to be major. How else could one explain spending 100 million dollars for a job that will only return only 1.6 million over 4 years. :shifty :Yea right :shifty

The scary part is, by the time the next Presidential election rolls around, I'll be 35 - just old enough to run. Sure, I'll turn 35 about a month before the election, but it still makes me stop and think... Next time we elect a President, I'll be old enough to run...

And we all know I'm full of enough hot air to be a politician...

HOT DIGGITY DAM I'M NOT ALONE! :thumb

I'm sick of Too many Internet businesses and people on the Internet that have definitely insulted me these last few years. I’ve got other things ongoing right now like my Sonata PC Case problems with Antec and them not replying from a year ago with my many e-mails. Then one day after razing hell in numerous forums they finally gave me a call? Now this phone call was the best I’ve ever had! Now they want to fix my problem. Now someone gets off their butts and does something for once rather than double talk me to death and insult my intelligence with missed promises and half truths and lies. Then they said they would ship me out new parts and would reply to my e-mail and now here it is two days later and I’ve not seen any e-mails from Antec! I was shocked that anyone would even give a **** anymore about me, but now this? And as you can see all of this ties together as I’m sick of hearing people tell me what they think I want to hear just to cool my flames. I just want people to back their words up as I truly base the measure of a Mans words in his actions. I’m sure it was not because I got the attention of the BigWigs with Antec and put a hurting on their business, do you think? Hmmmm... But at any rate I now have to deal with this pathetic overcharge ordeal at another online AutoParts store because of a shipping error. My money does not grow on trees! And I don't like paying for services not Rendered! Not anyone of you would let something like this slide with your hard earned money! And I feel bad having to keep e-mailing people asking basic questions that all pertain to one simple fact that people are (You fill in the blanks) slow and misleading the truth with me.

Nevertheless I’m still hearing things are this-or-that and not seeing the results!

Someone could have done a lot of things, but for whatever reason they did not and I’m left here looking like the BadGuy pointing fingers at people and screaming to a monitor.

But when you say your going to do it right away you better do it right ******* now! :grumble

I reckon I kind of know how you guys feel.

I got home yesterday afternoon and had to start reformatting the bloody family computer, and four hours later...an irreversible driver problem.

Last time I reformatted that piece of **** it took me all of saturday and sunday to get it back up and running.

And then we're gonna take that thing back to NZ and it wont be replaced until some brilliant catastrophe. Because PC's there are not as cheap.

The thing is slow, my computer is three timnes faster and I think my computer is slow. !@ (*^

Why is there spyware? Why are there viruses? I'm sure that if someone were to whack the person-in-fault with a crowbar, he would be regarded as an international hero.

So I'm sick and tired of having to deal with computers lately. They only work well if they are not too old. If they get olf, they become feeble and dont work like that should. And then the parents think that they should last years, after all, our first computer lasted 6 years. -That is where they are wrong. It went through two COMPLETE crashes, in which core parts needed replacing. That bloody gateway has been up four years and it's lasted.

Argh It's good to rant. really makes you feel better afterwards.

Do what I did... Have a stroke.

I stay at home with my kids every day now, waiting for the denial letter from Social Security, living in my Dad's house (a good thing; my mother, for some strange reason, divorced him after 28 years of marriage because she has a new boyfriend... :Nope... so he has a LARGE house with one occupant, so we were welcome).

So, my life isn't stellar, but I do play a lot of Counter-Strike.

C'mon.. You can't tell me you don't have those days you want to just shut the forums down and kick all us out of here! :taunt

How can you get sick of computers Rodney? You ask for the parts you want and with any luck you get them. All though to be honest I've seen a void of highend products being reviewed like Processors and Videocards or is that just me? What I’m trying to say here is just how many accessories and brands of memory am I really willing to watch a brief review of?

Also if the parts don't work the company sends you another until the problem is fixed all because it's about a videoreview of their products and that is advertisement dollars to be had from us poor dumb suckers. Where as with the common Joe like everyone and me they just ignore us like pesky ants and that leads me to my rant today. :grumble

I don't think there is ever going to be a time for myself when I can just say, "Hey this memory does not work, oh well. Maybe I'll try this other brand that I didn't have to pay for and can't sell on e-bay." J/K :Blah The fact is that most of us spend are workday being busy at the end of the day don't have the time or patients to deal with fixing a computer because of a virus or bad (You fill in the hardware) just to read 1 out of 1000 e-mails of useless, pathetic Spam.

Though I’m not saying your world is any better because there is a high level of stress getting things managed and working for peanuts.. LOL! J/K :KICK ASS

all i can think of
is that a large amount of people go from doing what they like, to what they love

what is your true calling?

i thought mine was computers, but really, its just a hobbie that allows me to get the music i love, communicate with people and help them out.

really, id love to have my own shop for something, meet interesting and new people day in and day out. help them, see what is going on in the world.

computers to me, is an exciting way to communicate ideas. but in the end, we are all sitting in our homes waiting for an email.

why not go out and do something that requires you to send out emails to your friends to tell them what adventures you have had in life?

i probly should of read this whole form. but, i really dont want to pursue a career in computers. the market is down. i really dont have the patients for my math courses.

i need to get out there, i need to get away from it all. i dont want to have 4 years of my life in schooling that may get me a decent job where i will have to upgrade.

i dont want to be in a suit, going to work in some office. hating my job, having to deal with crappy workers.

i think this is the most i have wrote but, i need to let it all out

i dont want to tell my dad im not interested in sait anymore because, really, what else can i do? i don tknow what else i can do. i havnt had a job without working for him. sure i am a hard worker, know what to do. i can do it. no one is willing to give me a chance.

to beautiful things.

I dunno... I've just lost the spark for computers that I used to have. They just annoy me now. Like the one I spent all day working on at work. Formatted the hard drive, loaded Windows 2000 and all the drivers. Then went on Windows Update to grab all the updates, like a good tech should, and what happens? One of the updates (and there's no way to tell which one, since Microsoft thinks only people with a degree in ancient Aramaic should be able to decipher their update names and descriptions) totally borks up the sound. So now I'm back at square one.

Now, if we were discussing Windows 3.1, that'd be a different story. But this is Windows 2000. One of the big selling points of Windows 2000 and XP was that the drivers would be kept away from other stuff, so that they couldn't be taken down so easily. And then a Microsoft update blows the sound driver to hell.

It's just stupid. WazLady and I spent about an hour tonight playing Soul Caliber 2 on the XBox (she actually kicked my ass a few times, despite it being her first time playing the XBox since we got it), and it was so much fun. We just turned the thing on, put in the disc, and away we went. Why can't computers be that much fun? Why can't computers be that easy?

I'm just tired of hearing about BTX, and DDR2, and PCI-Express, and Socket 775. I just don't get why people don't take care of their computers better. Two free downloads - Avast and Adaware - and you're protected from 95% of the crap out there. Add a good defrag now and again and you're set. But oh, no - they'll download every piece of junk program that they find on the internet. But ask them to use a virus scanner and they recoil in horror. "It's too hard..." "I'm scared..."

Add to that the fact that I got screamed at last Thursday by two different people, and I think it's understandable why I'm ready to give these things up. Games aren't as fun any more, I don't see any reason to upgrade my system, and I'm tired of dealing with these stupid problems that just shouldn't happen in this day and age.

That's all I'm saying... It's just no fun any more...

If you can get your music to play..call dell. i cant hardly log onto messenger any more cause ill have 8 friends bugging me about computer problems. i think i need to go watch office space again.

Not me!

After futzing with computers since the original S-100 8080 Altairs and the like, compies are one of the few fun things I have left. I like the challenges of un-quirking a quirky computer. I learn a lot of new things as a part of the experience.

Without computers to keep me entertained, I'd have to go out and get a life...

I just had this bite me in the ass. I got sick and tired of this guy at work asking me to help him build a computer. I just don't think he has what it takes to learn it. So I had him buy a Dell and he got some good stuff for his money. Here it is a year later and warranty is over and he is asking me about problems. He said when he runs the computer for a while and reboots the compute looks up sometimes and gives the normal blue screen display XXX error. It also make a clicking noise when this happens. I just looks at him and told him it could be that a fan is dead and is over heating the systems. It could also be the memory, CPU and Harddrive. Then gave him a bunch of things to try. And ever after all of this I told him just open the dam thing up and look for what is making the noise. But he looks at me like he is too scared to do this and feel bad for him. So now I'm stress out that he didn't buy a 3 year warranty and now I'm got to help him once again. So as you see telling someone to buy a Dell still finds away to BIT ME IN THE ASS!

I know this pain...way too many people ask me to build computers for them (free I might add)...that I just don't have time for...so then they buy a box off the shelf someplace or get something from the likes of Dell/Gateway...which I end up having to fix normally even before the warranty is up...but just after its over...that's always when the problems start. I swear...I don't hate Dell because of its money, or its success, or anything like that...I hate Dell because of crappy designs inside the case, as is the same with most mass computer makers. The designs in the cases are so cramped and odd that its almost impossible to work on anything reasonably easily.

Makes me love even more my big old Dragon style tower - is it big as hell, yes...but that thing is about the easiest case to work inside ever.

I'm gonna stick with my current setup for a while yet. I've changed CPUs and motherboards twice in the last two years, and I don't see that much of an improvment to warrant the money spent.

According to the PC magazines (like sucky Maximum PC and PC Gamer), I'm not going to have the optimum experience playing Half Life 2 because I only have a 2.4Ghz processor, and not a 3.0Ghz or above one.

Bullhockey.

My system's going to smoke Half Life 2 into the freaking ground and still have stuff left over to crunch pi into infinity, and it's not going to cost me hundreds of dollars to do it either.

I think I'm turning retro - I'm not upgrading until what I've got no longer works. I'm enjoying the other stuff in the house (XBox, guitars, DVDs, yada yada yada) too much to bother any more.

I can imagine how you guys feel working with so many computers but if you're like me and only own 2 computers or a few it's not that bad at all.

I do a full system upgrade every 4 years. I hope I'm not the only one but I find the research that I do before buying is part of the excitement of building a new setup. By research I mean, finding the best motherboard, CPU, RAM etc. for my needs and whether they're compatible or not. The formatting and installation of software can be a pain but it's only an hour of your time and once everything is up and running, the effort really does pay off. Most programs update themselves so it's only Windows Updates that needs to be started by the user from time to time. By using software such as Firefox, antivirus and a firewall, you don't really need to worry about spyware and viruses too.

Well, it's time for an upgrade so I'll be looking forward to setting up my Socket 939 nForce4 mobo, Athlon 64 and a gig of RAM when the time comes :KICKASS

Wazman, this is very simple! Very, very, very simple! If youre not happy working on computers or are upset with the technology, then DON"T! That is the beauty of world we live in today! You can basically do ANYTHING you want. We are not destined to live a life stlyle that is chosen for us by family or society like it was years ago. You have the ability to do ANYTHING that you want! If you want a different career choice, then find out what the qualifications are, and get them. Complaining or whining about things is not going to solve anything. If you want a change, then just do it!

I totally agree!

I was in the same rut in my mid 20's. Stuck in a dead-end job that I really hated (I was working in a mail room at the time). I had no degree (I had to support myself at the age of 16) and and no marketable skills to speak of (except I could strip down and reassemble a xerox machine in 10 minutes flat), but I did meet a lot of people.

One day I had enough. After about 8 years of this crap I wanted to get into this new thing called computing. After building my own personal computer and having a blast at it I decided a to change my life right then and there. I went out and upgraded my skills in the direction i wanted to go in over 4 years of during night school courses at the local university. I also did some reference programming on my own. I then let it be known that I had the knowledge and drive to do the job in my target career. It took a couple of years of bothering the living s**t out of my target people, but I was allowed to take an aptitude test, and a short (8 week) introductory in-house programming course in COBOL, both of which required that I focus and dedicate myself 100% to pass with a mark of at least 97%. I was then placed in a position where I was one of two people programming automated bank machines that never used COBOL.

Now at almost 50, I've been a part owner of a successful software company, and currently a lead software designer and architect for one of the largest software companies in the world (its name does not start with an 'M'). It wan't easy but it is the career I chose for myself and fought for.

The bottom line: If you really want to acheive something, I mean you are really burning to do it, you can. You want to be a brain surgeon? Champion kickboxer? Why not? The only thing stopping you is the drive, and the will. You have to be hungry. As you pursue your goal everything works itself out somehow. The only thing stopping you from acheiving your dreams is you. So don't make excuses and whine! Just.Do.It!

This is a rant. In other words, I just had to get it off my chest. Once I did, I felt better. I am not "whining", thank you. I am fully aware of my options. I just needed to get it out before I exploded.

Damn it, but I'm sick of people calling me a whiner. You want whiny? Go hang out with some children. I was ranting. Venting. It's better to let it out this way than any other I might have chosen. I'm sorry I didn't know it was verboten to do that around here any more.
