Keep your tyres in check.

I was coming back from the "Cat & Fiddle" pub, which is the highest pub in England, I was stone cold sober, not had a single drink.
The main reason for the journey, was the road up there.
Mega twisty, and good for blasting down.

So, theres me, blasting down this road, I come upto a hair-pin left bend, slowed down to 30MPH, turned, and the car didnt.
Skid, C R U N C H !

I mounted a kerb, approx 40cm in height, at 30MPH.
Pushing the drivers side wheel (Right wheel) right into the arch, snapping the wishbone. :Sigh

Before the crunch, I was beating all my personal records tho :)
I had completly dusted my mate trying to keep up :KICKASS

After getting the car back home (On the back of a tow truck), I inspected the car the following morning.
It wasn't surprising the car slid off the road, the tracking must have been out and there was only about 1 inch of tread on the (drivers side)tyre from the outside edge inwards, the rest was bald.

Factor in the fact the road was damp, and some wet leaves.

Recipe for disaster.

This disaster will cost me £300 minimum :Holy Crap
If the steering rack is knackered, then possibly £400.

New wishbone, new wheel, 2 new tyres, 1 new wing, bumper resprayed, possibly new rack, sub-frame corrected.

All from 30MPH!

From now on I shall be checking the tyre health on a regular basis, as in 3 times a week!
Can't afford another Crunch like that!

The car looked mint lowered tho :KICKASS
Think I might invest in some low profile 15" tyres and some seriously ill alloys as well now :)

Hey what kinda car?

A Renault Clio.

So, straight away, take any reasonable quote for a car part, and muliply it by 4.

Renault parts = High Price

I wouldn't be surprised if they asked for my soul as part payment :)

"...the words ya'll use..." ???
Hhhmmmm, theres a farm joke here but I just can't bring myself to say it :taunt

What ever happened to using proper English, such as: "...the words you all use..." :)

Anyway, back to the subject at hand.

Your gonna wait till the tyres explode?
In a BMW?
Are you made of money?

I would not like to be hurtling down a motorway and have a tyre blow out on me. I only narrowly missed a major accident with that happening to me before, but not on a motorway.

(Country lanes are far too tempting NOT to open the car up and give it some stick) :KICKASS

My current mood is Hyper (The expected result from downing 8 cans of Redbull), so to say I am mellow is not the appropiate word.
Bear this in mind when reading the above post.
I'm basically hovering about 2 inches off the ceiling as I type this I'm that hyper.

(Exxxxxxxxcelent sugar & caffiene rush tho)

Hmm.

I have a teacher who had a tire blow out while he was cornering at around 120km/h on a highway, the car rolled six times and he got an injury to the back of his head.

Lets hope your tire explodes while you are driving in a straight line, then.

120km/h, whats that? About 60MPH?
He got off lightly then, some of the smash's I have seen on the motorways were nasty.
We are talking full decapitation.

That did involve a HGV and a motorway bridge tho.

Yeah about 65mph.

And what you say makes the thought of a tire blowout worse. :jawsdown

Yeah about 65mph.

Yeah, but what I saw only applies to HGV drivers that arn't paying attention to the road or the speed they are going, and don't care what condition it is in.

Chances of that happening in a car at 65 is remote.

The speed limit on motorways over here in the UK is 70MPH, but the police don't mind you doing n even 80.
Even most speed camera's are set to take a piccy at 80+MPH.

Is it the V-6? Drools, I love that car! I wish we had cool cars in the states...instead we have the PT Cruiser (http://www.tianchong.com/images/forcar/kelai/PT%20Cruiser_1.jpg) and the Aztec (http://www.carpricecenter.com/images/2002-Aztec.JPG)

A V6, Me? With a V6? Yeah right, I would kill myself with my concrete foot. :devil :KICKASS

Unfortunatly, its a little 1.2l 8v pumping out a whopping 75BHP.

(RANT)
PT Cruiser? Nasty! I HATE that car with a passion. Its majorly ugly.
Anyone caught driving one, should be dragged into the street and shot. :KICKASS

And that Aztec is now Also on my list of ugly cars.

What designer drugs are currently doing the rounds at Car Design HQ????
They seriously need to get off it, and start designing proper cars. :grumble
(/RANT)

Just my opinion of those 2 cars, thats all :)

I must admit, I was 'Dubious' when I first got offered my Clio.
I thought "Hold about, its ONLY a 1.2, I used to have a 1.6, WHY should I go down 400cc?!??!"

Then that other voice in my head spoke up, the voice of reason, and reality: "Martyn, you have 3 points on your license for Driving without Due care and attention"

Reality sucks!

But, that little Clio is very impressive, its a 1992 Reg, and it only had 26,000 miles on the clock. Excelent.
Now, its done 40,000, 14,000 miles since January this year. :noway
Some SERIOUS missions have been undertaken, and I have enjoyed each trip.

For a 1.2, its got a hell of a punch in 1st and 2nd gears, in the wet you can wheelspin all the way into 3rd with only a little bit of ragging :noway :devil :KICKASS
Also Exxxxxxxxcelent! :KICKASS

And, its got decent acceleration from 30MPH. Which is nice. :)
Average MPG: 50.1 :KICK ASS

Its my first car with Injection, and you certainly notice it :)
And thanks to a little *Tinkering* with the ECU, I managed to beef up the output a bit :)
Now, I can pull up at the lights next to a 1.4 16v Si, and officially dust it :KICKASS

I :heartbeat Love :heartbeat my little car.
Already named it as well :) "Nicola" or "Nicky" :KICKASS
She's my baby. :spin

I really need a Girlfriend! :lmao

Still trying to get the custom Reg plate that I want: MGE 3GM :KICKASS

The key with a small engined car is gear changes - most Aussies drive big V6 Automatics. They drive very averagely as all the work is done.

I love beating some guy with a hotted up Auto from the lights - clutch control!

I know exactly what you mean.
I beat a Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 from the lights because I hit the Sweet spot, that perfect combination of clutch and RPM.
He dusted me about 10 seconds later, but boy, what a 10 seconds! :KICK ASS

Renault = Pricy parts, but they pick their feet up SHARPISH!!! :KICK ASS :KICKASS

So your telling me, when ever you get a new car, you DON'T go on a Man-Car bonding session, preferbly along the windyest road you can find?????? :)

And thats not to say that Man-Car bonding sessions can only happen at initial purchase. It can happen at any time :KICK ASS

This is the first car I've ever owned - living in London was not conducive to cheap insurance.

Mind you I've hired loads on holiday - 155 Mph in the desert on the way to Area 51 in a 4.5 L Mustang Convertible is one of my happier memories

I have noticed that London prices are basically Manchester prices x 2 :)

As for the 155MPH, GOOD MAN! :KICKASS

The fastest I have been over here on a motorway, at night, along a stretch of motorway with no speed cameras, in a friends car, is 140.

Looked like I was going warp speed, funny thing was, my mate WAS sitting beside me going "She canny take it captain!" in the traditional Scotty accent. Well funny! :KICK ASS

No speed limits outside metropolitan areas of Nevada :KICKASS

I only held 155 for about 10 seconds - convertible and that speed is scary.

The trucks do about 110 there so you have to go fast to overtake them.

You have to avoid the longhorn cows though :jawsdown The stretch I drove on was 30Km straight.

My next car in Oz will be a V8 Ute :luxhello
