Brandi's dad sent this picture of the aurora that occured last night. Reports are that it was visable as far south as Kansas.
This picture was taken about 5 miles from Buffalo Center, Iowa

Nice! I wish it had made it a little farther south. I was out in the dark for a couple of hours last night. It was a beautiful night. An aurora would have made it exceptional.
Great catch! :thumb
Wow! :jawsdown
That's really amazing. How come it was so far south? When my folks lived on the Isle of Skye, you could see it there - although I always missed it :Sigh

How come it was so far south? Solar flare aimed at Earth. It overly energized the ionosphere, causing the larger than normal aurora. I imagine the same thing has happened in the south too.

Yeah Probably - when I finish up here and have some time off I should really brush up on my SH Astronomy

i was outside tonight looking at the sky, and i can just barely see something happining...nothing spectactular in color, but the aurora is out. its also aprtly cloudy and a few snow flurries falling so thats dulling things down. i did however see one of the most amaizing shooting star ive ever seen...put anything i seen during the meteor showers to shame.

Look at it upside down - Orion is one of the few Constellations that can be seen from both Hemispheres.
From here he is upside down.
