I don't remember seeing a thread like this here before, and at any rate, we've got a bunch of new members, so I thought I'd put it up.

Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? WazLady's family opens on Christmas Day, but mine opens on Christmas Eve (I'm not quite sure why). What we do now is, since her ex has our daughter on Christmas Eve, we go to my folks' house and open there Christmas Eve, and then pick her up, and then open our stuff Christmas morning as a family, and then go to WazLady's parents' and open our stuff there.

Confusing, but it works out.

So I was just wondering if other people did something like that, or if my family's the only one that opens on Christmas Eve.

As I mentioned in another thread, the Peterson children decorate and light the big tree at the farm after Thanksgiving dinner. We then sing carols and celebrate the start of the holiday season and it's true meaning ending with everyone opening one gift from their family.

On Christmas Eve we all go to Christmas Eve services at church and then since the grandkids are usually at the farm, there is a huge amount of activity just to get the kids to bed. On Christmas morning after the kids discover what Santa brought them we have breakfast and then we open presents.

Since most of the presents are for the younger family members it is a joy filled occasion for the kids. Most of the adults spend a good bit on various charities in the community and we all help serve a Christmas meal at church in the evening and have fellowship with the people there.

As Sylvia well knows (and laments sort of), I only will open my presents on Christmas, not eve or any other day, regardless. I am a stickler for stuff like that...even for birthday presents and such.

Personally, I am against people getting me gifts altogether (unless someone wants to get me an iPod or Ninja Gaiden for xbox...in which case...bring it on)...but yeah. Personally, for me...its all about being with family and friends vs. the presents...most of the time, I couldn't care less, I have already everything I need and most everything I truly want.

I open one at Eve and the rest in the day. When I was younger I used to wake up at 6 A.M. and wake everyone up. Now I sleep in.

My family does half and half, we exchange eath other's gifts (Mother, Father, Sister and I) on Christmas Eve, then have people over from both halves of my family to do those exchanges(Aunts, Uncles, cousins etc.).

Local family on Christmas Eve at my parents, then make a drive to the relatives on Christmas Day. (Or I should say the rest of my family does. I just stay home.)

We always open them on Christmas Day, I never have nor will open them on Christmas Eve. We usually go to mass on Christmas Eve since my sister and I have been in chior/bell chior, and we play on Christmas Eve. Which I like cause them I can just stay in my pj's and don't have to go anywhere Christmas morning.

I have been trying to catch my parents in the act of putting presents under the tree for the last couple of years, but I have always been unsuccessful. I get up between 4 - 5am, but they are already under the tree. Maybe this year I will catch them.

Why on earth would anybody want to open prezzies on Christmas Eve?

That's what Christmas Day is for!

If you open any christmas presents on another day that just ruins the feel.

If you open any christmas presents on another day that just ruins the feel.I know a lot of Catholics who open their presents on Christmas Eve, then go to Midnight Mass afterwards. That lets the parents sleep in on Christmas... :devil

Because that's when my family could get together to do it. It worked better for us that way.

That's why on earth.

I don't see anything wrong with opening up prezzies on Christmas Eve. In some familes like ours that is when we can get together. Some families celebrate Christmas eve, some Christmas day. Like for our little Alex we will open up ours as a family Christmas day. So she can see Santa came. :luxhello My family always did ours Christmas day.

To me, just being together as a family is what matters. Knowing that we are all alive in good health.... :luxhello

Our family is half and half

On my side, we're of German nationality, celebrating Christmas Eve is the major event
My wife is American, she celebrates Christmas day, but even she allows one present to be opened on the eve

Why would a person question why anyone would celebrate Chrstmas Eve?... the tradition goes back further than celebrating Xmas day
