I think Antec was the first company to come up with the modular idea, when they introduced the Antec NeoPower Power Supply.

The specs on this PSU are impressive and the looks, well theres no question, the X-Connect looks wicked. I would really like to put this in my system and see how nice and clean my case would become (and also see if temps drop). Now I've read they are not as reliable as Antec or Enermax but I have heard of no horror stories from anyone I know personally. My buddy is gettin a 400W version from TigerD.ca. I will get his opinion of it in not too long.

BTW gameman, these giveaways rock! :clapping
I really would love to win one *crosses fingers tightly*

Hey hey, I'm not saying is a bad PSU. I'm just saying that some people might had voted for Alright instead of Wicked, because they are rating the PSU and not if they like Giveaways or not. You may think the PSU is wicked but other people might think it's just an alright PSU.

Uber Sweetness Baby! :thumb One question though Rodney does this X-Connnect have a 20 or 24-pin power connector?

It comes with a 20 pin connecter standard, you have to buy a 24 pin connecter. and thery cost about 20 bucks or atleast they did when I bought mine. Anyway the x-connect I had in my comp. was P.O.S. The voltages fluctuated horribly bad and I'm not talking just a few decimal points I.m talking between 10 to 15 volts at a time, constantly. So i just trashed it and got a Antec NeoPower. Anyway werty if you win I'll send you the 24 pin connector free of charge, it's the UV blue one.

3dGameMan
06-15-2005, 02:11 PM
I emailed Ultra to see if the current ones are shipped with the 24 pin adapter. Here's their reply:

"No the cable has to be purchased separately... The X-Finity's have an adapter.

I'm surprised that they don't use a 24 pin connector, given that most people dropping the cash for this kind of PSU are usually buying or building on the higher end of things. I guess this design is old enough that 24 pin was not yet standard for all high power boards.

Chris

24-pin? I have missed out on something? Then what's the one that's the really big one that's been around for years on ATX mobos.

I think every contest makes us have less and less of a chance because more ppl get over 150 posts and then more ppl join the forums. No chance left anymore. Now people keep saying they never win anything on these forums. Well I'm guessing there's over 300 forumers and then there's 1 contest a month and it used to be less than that, so having won anything is therefore for a select few and not something that should be noted as the rarity is something to converse over.

I like the detachable plug cords use as you need them, helps prevent clutter inside the case. I like the idea they have plastic cover plates for connectors not used.

The UV reflective makes it added attraction to purchase.

There is a similar product that has a Digital display of Wattage use that is installed in the 3 1/2 in bay. I would have liked to see that added to this power supply.

I was looking at one of these in CompUSA a while ago. I have alot of wires in my computer and i only use one of the 4 strands of connectors on my power supply. That leaves a real mess in my case and is a pain to keep them away from fans and out of sight at the same time. This PSU seemed to be quality in build with a good weight to it. The rails on it seemed beefy enough, even on the usually skimped +12v. The modular PSU's are a nice innovation and the UV sensitivity is nice too.

Cannot believe I won this. I've been needing a new PSU so I can buy a nicer graphics card and now I have one, this is awesome, especially because it means I can now try out these SCSI drives because I have enough 4-port thingies.

Also, I only have 16A on my +12V line so this is a worthy upgrade.

Age of Empires III, I'm waiting for you... lol

=D

CRAZY, you never think you're gonna win when you do.

Question: Can I enter into other contests as well or bc I won I'm done?

Yeah, I also have that doubt. If at the moment of picking the winner of next month's giveaway, amazingly the person that won last month's (or even someone from a couple of months before) wins again, would you give that person the prize, or would you pick another winner? :What the

Here are the "before" pics you'll wanna see.

In the pictures, you'll notice I need to dust off my processor's HS and that my power cables are EVERYWHERE. I have a blue cold cathode light in there, and I was using the camera's flash, so if it looks strange in places, that's why.

I wanna see the "after" pics right now, lol, that would mean I'd have the PSU here already, oh well.

That is actually not bad saturn!
Considering u dont have much drives and fans and stuff.

I myself have 3 hard drives, 3 cd drives, 4 case fans and a UV tube so mine was horrendous compared to urs until a buddy of mine decided to help me loom up my power cables.

Well, I can't have more than 2 drives of each with this PSU so I'm limited. Only 16A on the +12, ick.

I'm afraid of upgrading the VPU so I'm waiting for this PSU, and I saw the VR, it's lookin' like now I'm ready for a new system based off of some of these parts, but I posted that in the Hardware thread. LOL, it's really funny how I magically have spending money now once I don't have to buy a new PSU since that's the LAST thing I wanna spend money one even though it's important.

Have you received this product yet?

Actually, no. I'm kinda wondering what's wrong since I get everything early.

It might have been the city though. The postal service uses a different city name (that is made up of 2 OTHER city's names combined that are not even my own) for my house, and I usually have problems because I cannot type in my zip code with my regular city name.

Although, I have never had any problems getting mail and the postal service KNOWs what the name of my city is, it's just that 1/2 of the mail I recieve uses the other name.

Well the whole reason I'm including the time is to say what time of day it is so you know that it's not like 6:00 AM, and I'm like, nope, hasn't come in yet. Saying it's 1:15 is just to say that the entire July 31st has passed and nothing's come in yet. That's odd because it the 26th that Rod posted that they were sending 2 day priority.

6 days later--being the 31st--there hasn't been a package. I don't think it's lost in the mail; I'm guessing that they're lazy or whoever is doing this--Fed Ex or UPS--doesn't know that the city that they ship in and the one the postal service uses is different. But I've never had a package not come before and especially this late indeed.

I've seen FedEx and UPS trucks (and US Postal) all over the place, and I'm like, oo, that could be it, or maybe that one, or the one that just left the neighborhood. The neighborhood's actually pretty large so there's trucks like that everyday; although I walked home a couple days in a row and actually saw them, so I keep thinkin' "THAT IT!"

Okay, that's my message. Sayonara.

Dude I understand your frustrated, but be grateful that you won something. You need to be patient. I keep getting e-mail notifications and most of them are your impatient comments. I would unsubscribe, but I wanted to see your results and feeling on the PSU. If I won and it took two months for me to get the prize, so be it. Same way I feel with rebates. As long as I get my money back I am happy. Just be happy :banana

Yeah, turns out I only took 19 pics, and I've been choosing between my 10,000 different upload methods. I think I finally figured one out though. Having Photoshop CS2 made this possible because of the simplicity.

First thing I noticed was the smell of rubber. It was VERY apparent and pretty gross. Luckily it wasn't there when I was actually putting it in the PC.

Done with the cons, onto the pros. I really thought that the 20-pin was a MONSTER. I mean, that thing is enormous, but it kinda has to be. Everything else is really cool though, and I thought: 2 fans? That's more than I had w/ the other one, and knowing companies, it'll probably be really freakin' loud now.

Well, I should point out that when I first started up my PC, yes it was louder, by a lot, but the most noticable difference was that all my fans were spinning faster which tells me that I was about on the edge of a power surge with the other PSU since I was pulling everything I could. Now I know 500W is too much for today's PCs, but at least it's continuous and 34A on the +12V compared to 16A that I had (I knew that was going to be a problem when I got the case, but I didn't have money to change it anyway) was such a difference. I might try to OC more since I believe it might have been a power problem before, but who knows.

Okay, after all the talking, I think I finally have the album up. Apparently I didn't make it fancy w/ all the Photoshop stuff I wanted, but it's okay.

Go here (http://adobe.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?Uc=z84zvf0.hrzhsng&Uy=rn8ok9&Upost_signin=Slideshow.jsp%3Fmode%3Dfromshare&Ux=0&mode=fromshare&conn_speed=1)

Oh man, this was ages before I even owned my own digital camera. I think I used my parent's actually. I can post up pics now, but I'm sending it in for RMA. It's got a 3 year warranty and the backlight went out sometime back in Fall 2005. Too bad I probably won't have any space in my case for it now that it's filled full with HDDs, but I'll see what I can do about using it and posting pics. Sorry for the long delay. Did I ever post up pics of the PSU?
