A MAN charged with sex offences was yesterday deemed too fat to appear in a Queensland court.
The 58-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with six counts of indecently dealing with a child under 16.
The accused man lives in Western Australia, but the offences allegedly happened between 1979 and 1982, when he was living in Brisbane.
Queensland prosecutors had sought to have him brought to Brisbane to face the charges. But during a mention in the Brisbane District Court yesterday, a Crown representative produced a doctor's report that found the man was "morbidly obese" and too large to travel to Queensland to face the charges.
His case cannot be heard in Western Australia as the offences allegedly occurred outside the state's jurisdiction.
However, the Crown has approved funds for representatives of Queensland's Justice Mediation Centre to be sent to Western Australia to deal with the matter.
