Yep, I live in the 'Redneck' bible thumping province.

I don't see why so many people are so threatened by this; if you're not gay then this new law won't even effect you at all. Not unless you are a devorce lawer anyway. :)

I don't see why so many people are so threatened by this; if you're not gay then this new law won't even effect you at all. Not unless you are a devorce lawer anyway. :)Probably because it's seen as only the beginning. It's offensive to the majority to set up "special" rights to others that they themselves can't claim. The idea is that an individual should be equal with everybody else, not be set aside as "special".
Hell, in Canada they have been giving specific groups special rights since inception. Francaphones, First Nations, Minorities... all of these groups get special treatment and job considerations; if you belong to more than one of these groups you are guaranteed a government job without ever having to know how to actually do that job.
Does this offend me? Sure, but there is nothing I can do about it. It is easier for the polititians to enact policies and create new laws than it if for them to rollback policies or laws. This is why Canadians are so layed back; since we can't change things we just learn to roll with the punches.
On the same sex marridge issue, the majority of Canadians are not opposed to the idea at all. Only Alberta is opposed, and that is only due to the conservative Christian enclave that lives in this province.

Seems a hell of waste of tax payers money for a 'class' of people that only represent 1% of our nation.
Maybe that's why Ralph gave in to the pressure... it wasn't worth it(what am I saying, he said just that) but he gave the clergy an out , they don't have to perform the service if they don't want to.
