Sorry, but I meant to post this about an hour or so ago, but I got called away...

I got a quick call from Ed Johnson (bejohnson) a couple of hours ago. He asked that I let y'all know about his wife's (blpeterson) parents. It seems they were in a very serious auto accident today. Some unfortunate soul ran a stop sign at 60 mph and hit their truck broad-side. Floyd and Elise are in the Mayo Clinic with broken ribs, arms, and some internal injuries. They are stable and not in critical condition. (Ed should be along after while with more details.) The other driver wasn't so lucky. He wasn't in a big pickup, so, sadly, he is no longer with us.

Ed asks that you keep Brandi, Floyd, Elise, and the rest of the Peterson family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks! :thumb

Again, Ed will have more specific details...

Aurwrgh bummmer.

It's these sorts of morons which can destroy the best of people.

I'm sure that the other 7 people who have already viewed this thread are thinking what I am... hoping that they'll be okay.

Here is what happened.

Floyd and Elise were coming home from the store after buying some groceries. It was about 1830 hours and they were on the main highway. An 18 year old male driver ran a stop sign at speed (estimated at 60+ MPH) and T-boned the truck between the right rear door and the truck bed. The truck rolled a couple of times. Both Floyd and Elise were wearing seatbelts the other driver was not.

Elise has a broken right arm, bruised ribs, bruised liver, bruised right kidney, bruised pancreas, broken right collarbone, broken right wrist and a possible hairline fracture of the pelvis.

Floyd has a broken left arm, a broken left collarbone, two fractured ribs, bruised ribs and a punctured left lung.

They were stabilized at Albert Lea, MN and flown to St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, MN (Mayo Clinic).

They were in ICU after surgery but have been moved to a private room together. For the most part they are sedated.

Floyd was aware enough to order Brandi to stay aboard ship and do her duty. (He was very firm. :KICK ASS ) We were planning a week together at the end of July duty permitting. We both will be going home instead for at least a week.

The other driver had a BA level of 0.23 and tested positive for Meth and was killed instantly. He was driving a small rice box.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the children’s charity of your choice. You may e-mail Brandi at brandipeterson@mindspring.com and any well wishes will be forwarded. Note that address has a SPAM filter so you will get a notice to that affect. The messages will be received.

How old are they?
I'm guessing upper 50"s+ based on what BE said Brandi's age was (the other day in the expecting thread)
Sorry to hear about the accident BE, fortunate they had done everything possible (large vehicle, seat belts) to protect themselves from the stupidity of others.
Drug use (including alcohol) is not a victimless crime

How old are they?

Floyd will be 85 soon and Elise will turn 80 shortly.

Hmmm.. I don't read much further than the first few posts, that will teach me..lol :Blah

BA level of 0.23 and tested positive for Meth

*1 drink = 1.5 fl oz(44 mL) liquor (80 proof) or one glass [5 fl oz(148 mL)] wine or one glass [12 fl oz(355 mL)] beer.

*12 drink per hour = 0.20

Difficulty walking, double vision, nausea, vomiting.

Then you add Meth. :jawsdown

I remember recently seeing a video taken from one of those police bait cars that have a hidden camera inside. The guy driving was on meth and totally whacked out of his head. He was absolutely freaked out. Every once in a while he would pick up a gun and shoot it out of the passenger side front window. It was scary as hell to see this insane animal behind the wheel of a car and with a gun.

As bad as this sounds, I am glad the guy driving the car that hit Elise and Floyd didn't make it. This way there will be no possibility he will repeat this insanity and hurt/kill someone else. The sad part is that there will be another 100 fools just like him out there that will step right in and take his place.

In her last message from the 16th Brandi said that her parents are in critical care, moved to a private room together. Understandably, they are in some pain, but doing better than one would think (if you consider their age). :Thumb

So how about an update? How are they doing? :What the

Floyd and Elise are much improved. The initial soreness from bouncing around like BBs in a can has passed and the doctors are slowly reducing the pain meds. I was at the hospital this weekend and while they are bruised and scratched up they are mending. The doctors hope to release them by week's end at the earliest and mid-week next week at the latest.

My thoughts and prayers are still with Brandy and her family. Sorry I didn't read this eariler. I am very happy they are improving well!

I am sorry to hear about the other driver. Unfortunatly, Meth is a problem in the rural area...and urban. In the past year they have found 2 meth labs here in our county. Meth labs are more common in rural area's because of the smell produced making it.

Again, I am glad to hear Floyd and Elise are doing well! Keep us posted and I am keeping them in my prayers.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier.

My family said a Rosary dedicated to them. (Prayer does work, by the way!)

Hope they are back in normal life soon. Hospitalization sucks, and trust me, I know.
