Ridiculous - the Govt is trying to control our drinking. The only reason Binge Drinking exists in the UK is because of our Archaic drinking laws - people try to get their drinks in by 11.00pm

Here in Aus you can drink all night - there's less rush so the atmosphere is different.

Nope - it's a relic of World War I

People were turning up to work drunk and blowing themselves up at the munitions factories. :shocking The 11.00pm last orders was implemented to give them 8 hours of drink-free time.

It was never repealed. The stupid thing is that the real reason behind this situaton is rich people. Because the law was never repealed, Central London has fairly quiet streets after midnight (as opposed to the Hogarthan scenes pre the ban). Lots of rich people live in the Borough of Westminster which is the main area to be affected (Covent Garden, Charing Cross, Leicester Square etc).

They don't want the noise back and the govt listens to them more.
