New York, September 14, 2005Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said that women in Pakistan get themselves raped for getting a visa to Canada and becoming a millionaire.

"You must understand the environment in Pakistan. This has become a moneymaking concern...a lot of people say if you want to go abroad and get a visa for Canada or citizenship and be a millionaire, get yourself raped," the Daily Times quoted Musharraf as saying in an interview with The Washington Post.

He further said that Pakistan should not be seen in isolation as far as rape cases are concerned, as it happens even in the US, Canada, France and the UK also.

"Pakistan should not be singled out when the curse is everywhere in the world," he said adding that reports or figures about rape in the US, Canada, France and Britain show that "it is happening everywhere"...

Hmm, from my understanding the word 'rape' means to be coerced by force or otherwise into sexual acts without your consent.

It seems to me that if a woman is out hoping to 'get raped' she is in fact soliciting the act and in fact consenting to the act.

I can see the inticement of going to a richer country with a higher standard of living, but 'getting themselves raped' is the wrong terminology for what they are doing I think. I believe it is more like they are 'exchanging favors'.

I also agree it is not just Pakistan where this is happening.

And he wonders why he gets so much criticism. He must have 'foot in mouth' disease.

Like any of the women whom have come forward about thier rapes in Idea have recieved any financial gain; the ones whom have come forward have become volunteers for womens rights... stress the volunteers part, meaning no paycheque. Musharraf has to take his head out of his arse and join the 21st century.
