SPOKANE, Wash. - A Spokane City Police Department Lieutenant who supervised traffic enforcement officers has been demoted - for speeding.
Lt. Dean Sprague was demoted two ranks to detective for twice speeding in excess of 100 miles an hour. One incident happened while he was on his way to an enforcement traffic safety conference.

I have... Cops speeding, flashing their lights to get around people and then turning them off when they get ahead of everyone...

People in a position of authority are still just people, and just like everyone else they excercise poor judgement sometimes and have their bad days too. Not that I'm defending anybody since I think action should definitely be taken when warranted, like in the above situation. Do as I say, not as I do lol. :)

My friend Kevin is an Omaha Police Officer.
He drives a Subaru Impreza STi.
And he speeds. Like mad. And I yell at him about it FREQUENTLY!
I've been in the car when he got pulled over. He flashes his badge, and drives off, speeding again. He claims that, since OPD requires professional driving courses for officers, that he's not worried because he has the "skills" to handle this, but for whatever reason he's spun off the track three times now on the local race course. :What the

You should point out that as a sworn police officer he is sworn to uphold the law, not break it. The badge does not give him the right to ignore the law. The law applies to all whether they believe it or not. If he was in certain jurisdictions in Iowa or Georgia the moment he flashed his badge he would be charged with the felony of attempted influence of a police officer.
I have a cousin that just retire as the chief deputy of a county sheriff's department in Georgia. That type of behaviour would cost an officer his job and several nights in jail.

Yeah, when I said I yell at him FREQUENTLY, that's what I yell.
Kevin is a very good officer, I'll give him that, but speeding I guess is his one weak spot. Hopefully Nebraska will update the law soon and fix this problem.
