A whole lot of school books are going to have to be rewritten now.
I suppose for the next little while school kids and teachers are going to have a row over whether there's 8 or 9 planets.

At least they've said it's a Dwarf Planet not just another asteroid, afterall it has it's own moons, so large enough to have a gravity that can hold them in orbit

Yeah, but one of it's moons is nearly as large as the "dwarf planet" itself.

It's all just verbal, you know. Symantecs. It hasn't changed the structure of the known universe one bit.

Most astronomers think the idea is daft. We'll see if it actually catches on. It's just ike the idea to reclassify Pluto as an asteroid. It died a quick death too. This stuff is dreamed up be folks with no other way to make a name for themselves.

As to Planet X, there are three or more circling out beyond Pluto. I forget the name, but one was just discovered in the past year or so.

The news that Pluto has been reclassified has only been made official yesterday (24 Aug 06). The IAU have REALLY been discussing the reclassification since the discovery of 'Xena' a couple months ago

The jokes now center around what those objects are that have been found in orbit around stars, they can't be called planets because it has to be 'orbiting the sun' :lmao

On the brightside, it gets the average joe away from sitting on the couch, watching tv, scratching their ASCII and actually thinking there's something outside of the state of California, there's other things in orbit around our sun, planets, comets, asteroids, now Plutonian Class Dwarf planets, amongst other stuff

Mean while on the planet of E-Pax, 1mile wide, they are watching us. "We should call Earth a super giant dirtball... it's just too big." ;)
