introChispito Wind Generator
The Chispito Wind Generator was designed to be simple and efficient with fast and easy construction. There are no limits to what you can do with wind power. There is nothing more rewarding and empowering than making a wind powered generator from scrap materials. Most of the tools and materials in this manual can be found in your local hardware shop or junk pile.

Looks pretty cool, I wonder what my power company would think about it. xD

Not too much they can do about it... Some power companies actually will credit you if you have enough generators to make more power than you need, and you let them put it on their grid.

If video cards get any more rediculous with thier power requirements we will all need to build one of those:noway

might need more than one... They are only good for 100 watts each. Not sure what you can run with them - maybe a couple of low power light bulbs in a pinch.

Northern Tools sells several wind turbines for low power installations (400-900 watts). Here is a link (http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/NTESearch?storeId=6970&N=0&Ntk=All&Ntt=wind%20generator&Nty=1&D=wind%20generator&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Dx=mode+matchallpartial) to thier catalog page.
Wind power is big business in Iowa and Minnesota. Brandi's Dad's farm is partially located in the Buffalo Ridge area and there are about 30 wind turbines located on his property.
There are major wind turbine installations all along the northern tier of the Plains and upper Midwestern states.
Check this article (http://archives.cnn.com/2000/NATURE/06/14/wind.power/) from 2000 on CNN.com
Even the Forest City High School has a 600 KW wind turbine. Here is the link (http://www.forestcity.k12.ia.us/Pages/windturbine/wind%20turbine%2006/Wind%20site06/Forest_City_School%D5s_Wind_.html) to the school's turbine. Follow all of the links on the turbine web page to see the effects and benefits of just one mid-size wind turbine.

Canadian Tire has them as well - both 400W and 950W wind generators right here (http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/browse_product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=140847439 6671723&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443285939&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474396670271&bmUID=1156811382369&fromSearch=true).
Costly though: The 400W one is not bad at $800 CAN, but the 950 runs $3000 CAN.
On the bright side the 950W one can run your computer and network gear so you can hang out here during a power outage :KICK ASS
This is a picture of the one at the Pickering Nuclear Power plant...
