Hey Rod, thanks for making sure none of us regulars get the shaft! You seem to always do a good job of making sure the contests are fair. I'm guessing Tivon'll probably help out on this one, lol! With so many people, gosh, at least you'll have no problem if most of us 500+ posters do anything.

Someone did have a point about there being more spam w/ 50 posts, but I think you are wrong there. I remember when I first tried to join a giveaway here. I spent my entire winter break trying to hit the 150 mark (that was the limit back then), and I couldn't even brush it. Luckily, I didn't win that one or I would've felt bad.

I know a lot of people who joined for giveaways, I wasn't one of them, but still, it's more like, I'm hoping they actually make good posts and stick with us because truly, these are some really nice forums that I surely know I wouldn't want to see go away. It would be nice to have more people again though, it'd just be really hectic because Kingdom is probably the only person able to keep up with all the new topics and I know I'd like to at least post in those that I could rather than having to keep up with the 50 topics that keep popping up in the e-mail everyday.

Oh, but if you get the proper post count by then...

The "register by this time" thing makes a lot of sense, but I don't think it'll go. The only thing would be to put up a big Contibuting Member notice at least a month ahead of time and then start a CM giveaway, that would bring more people to the forums as well. If this is a normal giveaway, think of what a CM giveaway would be!

I agree with Saturn, Rodney. I know you're trying to make it fair for everyone, and we a are grateful for it. And I know this is all about bringing more people to the forums and main site, but with a requirement of just 20 post most of them are just gonna rapid post through a bunch of threads (a lot of them old dead threads which they just make some comment on) to just look like they actually care. Heck even some members with 300+ posts that haven't shown up in a long time suddenly showed up and started rapid posting all over the place just to make it look as if they were regulars. After this huge giveaway is over most of them are gonna split until there's another giveaway they're interested in. With all these people joining and rapid posting we regulars might end up with nothing while they take prices and leave. Doesn't seem very fair. Raising the minimum post count to at least 150 posts will definitely cut back on hit and run spammers. After trying to make a few meaningful post (so they would count for the contest), unless they really wanna be here they'll just give up and leave. Those who really like it here will have no problem to continue posting (non spam) on a regular basis, even after the contest. Just my 2 cents.

We'll have to see Makubex. There's gonna be no change, at least not for this month. Rod had a huge giveaway (#27) back in April if I remember correctly for when the site reopened and there were many problems there as well, FAR more than we're getting with this one (and I consider this giveaway a lot better). I believe Rod knows what he's doing. If he finds he's doing something wrong, he'll probably fix it. All we can do now is tell Tivon any time someone is double or triple posting, spam posting, or if anyone is trying to spam the forums in general. I mean, Kingdom, Race, Robo, and I have been kind of policing some threads and making sure Tivon knows about them because we've seen things that weren't just spam, but scams. Tivon might only be one person, but if we're his eyes, then he can be everywhere. Also, he usually passes on the word to Rod about what we are saying and such (at least I believe that) and so Rod is going to make a good decision. We'll have to see what happens to the forums after this giveaway to see if 20 posts is too little or just fine.

JesterX, didn't you join bc of Giveaway 31? You stayed in right? What made you stay? supra33202 has been here for freakin' ever, I wonder why he/she only has 40 posts. I'm sure, if this giveaway is anything, it'll make that person post more. Lemme say this, not only did the 150 post count make me want to post like crazy, it also tempted me to spam post because it would've been so easy to do so. Another thing though, when I entered a giveaway and won, I would try to then payback Rodney somehow by being an active forum member for as long as I could until school got in the way again. Basically, I've tried my hardest to stay active since April when I won that RAM, and I even contributed because of it. Until this month, it was hard to do so, and I can understand why others would fear being active as well. These forums are kinda difficult to get into if you don't know anyone since it's such a big family.

To tell you the truth, I thought the forums were gonna die over the summer. Almost every thread was polluted with posts by Kingdom, Tivon, and I. Tivon, after he became a mod, posted far less and luckily Race had rejoined by that time. Then people started randomly coming back to the forums and making appearances. If it still was like it was this summer, there probably wouldn't be anymore giveaways or anymore 3GM forums. I mean, do you remember how many thread categories we had prior to this summer? I'd also like to note, Derfla and Deathrow were also part of the summer brigade. Maybe not as active as Tivon, Kingdom, and I, they still contributed their posts as well. I hope I didn't forget anyone. That's like 5 people.

Basically, these giveaways are what is keeping 3GM alive at the moment. If the 3GM forum newbies don't feel so left out by us tearing them all apart, I think they'd stay longer. All we can do is welcome them and encourage them in any way to stay with us. I'm also hoping that maybe they'll post more than 6 word sentences like "I like my PS3" without anything to tell us why... The reason we are such a good forum is because we are smarter than the average internet user, but if the average user joins 3GM forums, then we have to kind of show them our ways if that makes sense.

I consider myself to be a pretty average user, that is:
1) This is not the only forum I visit.
2) I visit this forum regularly, at least once a week if not more.
3) I only make a post or contribution if I think I have something to say that's worth reading.

Yes, there are uber-users that can post 100 non-spam messages in a month, but for a regular joe like me who is desperately hoping to have a life outside of his computer room, there's just no way to sound smart and insightful 3 times a day on multiple forums on multiple topics. And I can't focus on this place exclusively since it can't be everything to everybody.

So that means I believe that even at, say, 5 good posts a month, I believe I'm a doing my part of the forum. So if there were a contest where 100 posts a month are required, wouldn't it make me mad that I can't participate? Wouldn't it just make me want to quit this place even though I was happy with everything else?

So.. I think having a minimum # of fresh good posts isn't a good answer here. Maybe using the total # of posts, 50 or 100 works. Or maybe having a regular vouch for you. Just don't try to make things better by chasing people away. :)

Alright guys I agree with you on regulars should have a better chance at winning something but whats done is done and I know that even I would be upset if I didnt win anything on this contest given the odds as this would probably the only contest in which I could have won something from here but thats the luck of the draw, Rodney said he would check the winners post counts to see if they were spam or not and on top of that he should check their post per day to see if all there 20 post were done in a couple days and no new post have happen since then, that could also help eliminate non users with that said lets just kick back and enjoy the holidays and afterwards when the contest is over and we find out that 3/4 of the prizes went to be people never heard or have seen on the forums then we will say stuff but I think if thats what happens then we should all try to become CM so that will encourage Rodney to do these massive giveaways for CM and stick with small give aways for "normal members" that way the big prizes would go to those that deserve it so to speak now thats my two cents so lets just stop talkin about it, let Rodney do his thing and lets just have fun with these forums and enjoy ourselves.

I have heard about the 3DGameMan contests for a while and have just now come over. I don't join forums just to enter a contest and then leave. This may be perfect for either of my projects I have going on right now, is it a particular kit or is sharkacorp going to let you customize a kit? Be awesome if they will do a custom kit then I could get the Chipset/Ram/maybe HDDs loop done for my HBD Project or a gpu cooling kit for the zero2sixty project also be good PR for them as I will have this project at LANs, other online sites and Im in consideration to be put in a few mags when the case is completed ^^

yup its slowly becoming less than 50% chance of winning but them the breaks when it comes to a contest this large, I think the most I have seen people entered in a contest that I have entered was 89 so we will more than likely break that fairly soon.
