My host (http://www.midphase.com) was down once again today. This has been 3 times of downtime this month (Dec 2006). Unacceptable service that's for sure.
We are hoping to move the site to a dedicated server next month (Jan 2007). More details on this later.

Good point. Maybe Rodney can get a refund for this month? He could use it for setup fees for dedicated box.

BTW: For 3-4 days downtime in the month of Dec (2006) they offered me 1/2 month CREDIT. Credit is next to useless if I'm leaving them!

wow.. they are gay...
4 days of downtime is actually 98.9% ( ((365-4)/365) * 100)
Post a testimonial on their forums (again) and mention that you had 98.9% uptime and you were offered only 1/2month credit.
Oh, out of this month you only had 87% uptime.

I understand your frustration, I had shared hosting for almost 3 years and I got sick and tired of the excuses (hd died 3 times, though they have raid, PSU died, Ethernet cable failed, etc).

Useless to post anything like that on their site. The mods will just remove it. I started a thread over there and many people posted things midphase didn't like, so they removed them. That post is now closed over there. So nothing you can really do except leave them.

Right now, uptime is 89.58% for the month, not including today's downtime.

A lot of these hosts have ***** systems administrators
They don't even know how to secure their systems. Often times, they run their servers with well little or no security (SSH v1 enabled, cPanel and WHM not up2date, no firewall!)
So if some little kid runs bomb.sh or perl, they go down and its fairly easy since they don't really monitor their systems that much.

Yea I know. A lot of hosting companies I seen are ran by little 13 year old kids who know nothing about security, networking, servers, or anything at all so they don't bother.
Whats bomb.sh btw? I never heard of it.

wow, that is just rediculous, no way should you have all that downtime. And they only offered a 1/2 month credit? Give me a break, thats horrible customer service to go along with the horrible hosting service.

Forkbombs.....
Basically a program that keeps spawning (running itself) over and over, create more and more processes until the server dies.
Most web hosts don't have resource limits enabled on users, so users can used 100% of resources. The ideal is to limit how many processes a user can run, so that even if they run a forkbomb, its essentially useless.

There are reviews like this all over the net. I wish I had know this. I trusted my last hosting company to move me to a reliable but affordable host. www.Midphase.com is anything but reliable.

Yeah, the downtime is ridiculous.
After what I've read about midPhase, it seems the only thing that is reliable about them, is the fact the sites they host are reliably down alot.
As Tivon said, what good is credit on a down server?
And JesterX, thanks for the link. I only knew of a couple of sites like that for reviews, including webhostingtalk. I bookmarked webhostingjury incase I ever need it. :)

Webhostingtalk is excellent, you should also post there before considering a host.

You can promise anything and break that promise. A promise is only a promise, not a contract.

Correct, and when rodney signed up he signed a contract with midphase. In this contract (TOS) it says that if he doesnt get 99.9% uptime he gets a free month ;)

I had a feeling that most of that was true after posting in their forums for a while. I wish there was away to bring them down after we get setup someplace else.
