OK, when I bought this used laptop (Dell Inspiron 600m), it came with a free notebook cooler, the one in the title. Heres a pic of it:

OK, im trying to find a way to make this cool the bottom of my laptop better. At times, when im playing WoW, the bottom gets really hot.
And I read some reviews of this coolerit says that it is not the best cooler in the world to get. But since i got it for free, I thought that I would use it anyways.

So, what im wanting to know is there any mods that can be done to this cooler? I was thinking about puting some better fans in there, but the thing only runs at .9w (hence why they made the thing work with usb ports.

The speeds of both fans are 1500rpms, which I know is really low. The demensions of the cooler is 300x230x13.8mm. And because of that, I couldnt find a thin enough fan to replace the ones that are currently in it. Plus, theres no telling that they will work because the power use is so low, it might not be able to power a faster fan.

So, again, does anyone see any mods that might be able to be done to this cooler?

P.S. I was going to post in the mods or Colling forums, but I didnt know if suggestions were suppose to be posted, there, so... IF they can, a mod can move this post to one of those sections so that i can get more help.

Hey,

First of all. Laptop coolers such as that one rely on the laptop having air intake/fans on the bottom of the laptop. If there are none on the bottom then they are almost pointless to use. Get something like the ThermalTake iXoft. It spreads the heat from the laptop across the entire material and keeps your genitals alive.

Upgrading the fans to faster ones would help, but it would make the cooler much louder. It would only help by a small amount.

Do you have a multimeter to test the voltage and amperage of the fans? Are there any electronics inside or just fans directly connected to the power?

This type of thread goes into general hardware/electronics. But don't repost it. Tivon or a mod will move it to the correct location :)

Cheers,

The fans are connected directly to the power cord. I would test the ampirage, but the multimeter i have isnt good anymore as I have lost the test cords to the thing :Nope. But I can go out and buy another.

EDIT* I think I might just get the cooler your talking about. I looked on ebay and a couple stores on there are selling them for about $30-$40 each, compared to about $50 on this website I seen them on a day or so ago.
