"I'm trying to figure out away to collect money online, but I've been running into problems with Paypal monkeying around with my account. I think my e-mail provider even blocks Paypal before I even see anything, thus making things impossible for me. So what are some other good Paypal Alternatives?" ~Jared Maynard
What are your thoughts on this matter?
I was told by someone to check out http://www.bidpay.com :shifty

EMT (Email Money Transfer).
However your bank has to provide this service AND everyone doing the transaction must agree to it. Most commercial only stores will do this, for you and even shareware distributors. Just not automatically thru their websites - you will have to call them to arrange it with them.
The only other alternative for you my friend is good ol plastic.

I've seen some websites use 2checkout for payment, but I believe they are a credit card only service.
By the way, aren't YOU "Jared Maynard" ? Why quote yourself? Do you like Edward from Cowboy Bebop?

2checkout is becoming more and more popular on eBay, since many people don't want to set up PayPal.

My question is, monkeying around with what?
I've been using PayPal since 2000, and my account has moved (at this point) around $50K, in and out. With no problems!
Is this someone who is unwilling to "operate by the rules" and is being restricted for security? Is he looking for something more open, like a virtual merchant account (available through most major banks)? Is he unwilling to call (because PayPal, surprisingly, has people who answer the phone when you call, which for whatever reason people don't seem to expect)? I need details here.
Yeah, my wife is a supervisor in the call center, so I'm a little swayed, I suppose. But, for God's sake, if you have a problem, call in, ask to speak to a supervisor, and get your questions answered. Most of the "alternatives" to PayPal have gone away... geez, eBay when so far as to kill their payment system and just buy PayPal off of the open market!

They finally gave me a reply e-mail with a toll free number, so maybe now I can call and get my old account closed for good this time. Well, I didn't lose any money.. What happened was that it's been a long time since I've used it, but things changed. The options to change the passwords are not right. I recall years ago that I removed some of my information since I was not using it and didn't feel it was safe with all the hacks going around at the time. The phone number listed in the password change is not mine, street address is not matching and I never seem to get my confirmation e-mails. I figured I might as well let that account die and try another one with an updated e-mail address. But Paypal can see that the Bank info is already being used on another account. I find that annoying because years ago I could not create an account for my wife with that same problem.
Sorry if this was an over dramatic monkeying. I know I have a tendency to ride into the battle fields of hell with my shining knights armor and sword on a holy expedition. Guns blasting just amuses me more. Search the dead bodies and ask questions...lol

Wow, this entire discussion is making me nervous about the safety of PayPal. If somebody would hack my account, there would be a huge amount of money for me to loose. I guess having a really long and complicated password is the only thing I can really do. Isn't PayPal safe? That's what they say they are...

Paypal is safe as long as you use it properly... It is perfect for buying things. Perfectly safe there. However, when you are selling things in the 1k+ range it becomes dangerous to use, especially with credit cards. You can easily get scammed and burned for several grand if you deal with the wrong people.
But paypal is safe, for the most part. It just depends how you use your account. I wouldn't like to have a few grand sitting there at any time as I wouldn't feel safe about it... I'd prefer to probably pay by credit card if it were a grew grand transaction...

That's what they say they are...PayPal is just as safe as any other method of paying for something online. Personally, I've not had the first problem with it. I like using it better than giving my CC number every time I buy something. It seems that it would be less safe to give out your number every time rather than just once. I bet PayPal is more popular than either Discover, Diner's Club, or Carte Blanche.

I think anything is more popular than Discover card... I only see it accepted at major franchises...

PayPal is pretty much hack proof. Their system design is top-notch (e.g. they patent their encryption systems and lease them to bank systems!), however every so-called "hack" where someone lost money due to someone stealing their account was due to a spoof email to which the user responded and gave their password to the thief!
As far as getting screwed in a sale? I had my adventure, nearly $2000 in car parts undelivered. I filed a complaint, and it took three weeks, but I got every cent back.

Newegg has a full AVS credit card system, plus they are a Power Seller on PayPal. I only purchase stuff from Newegg using PayPal.
Tivon, if you're still having issues, call M-F 7AM to 2PM Central time, and ask to speak to a supervisor named Victoria McDermott (my wife). She'll set you straight... she knows the system inside and out. However, do it by the 18th, because she just accepted a promotion and that's her last day on the floor as a call-center supervisor.
People... DO NOT BUG MY WIFE with unnecessary BS or I will kill you!

Yes, PayPal is for the most part hack proof. However, you don't need to be hacked to lose money. There are plenty of scams people can pull on you other than the fake email ones.

Aww! Spoilsport. You're no fun. :( ;)
I will echo what the others have been saying about paypal. Beyond the monumental effort necessary to set up a verified account (I prefer to use a special purpose bank account with tightly controlled funds) and the insistence of having a credit card to do that, paypal has been a reasonable means of paying over the Internet for me. Far preferable to handing out credit card info (number, dates AND security codes). I just wish paypal was universally accepted.
