Hey guys,
Well, I turned 18 (yay) 38 minutes ago... (Based on when I started typing thing)... 45min ago now.
Back last year when I was addicted to World of Warcraft life felt like a game, really... Like it was a MMORPG... This was when I started WoW last (last?) year back in February. This was when I would stay up 36-48 hours straight playing WoW. Of course I would have about 30 minutes total for bathroom breaks and grab a fruit or something. Once in a while might break at 7:30am and go take a short 30min nap (with loud alarm clock. louder than i normally ever use. I didn't want to miss the 8am RAID).
So, after playing WoW for a few weeks after I started life felt like a MMORPG! My mom asked me to go buy some milk and I thought of it as a quest. You know how there are a ton of "get an item from the shop" quests in MMOs? So, yea, I'm not totally crazy. I even remember hitting a virtual air keyboard to open a quest log when exiting my house/apt. The cars were the baddies and other people walking were other players.
So there is also age in real life. Age can be viewed as your level. while experience has no relation to your level (or age in this case). Why can they be viewed similar? Well, when you level up you can use new armor and do other things.... For example, at 18 in New York you are allowed to:
legal porn
Play lotto
gamble
get a drivers license
get your own bank account
buy tobbaco
go to strip clubs
And there are other things you can do like open up a PayPal/eBay account. You can also own a credit card. Buy stuff over the phone, etc.
So I'm not totally crazy, it makes sense,... right?
So, um, thats about it... Life is like a MMORPG, and thats my view of why.
For my birthday, I get to go to 3hr lecture of psychology. Oh the joy!
I am hoping to get a liquid cooling system as a present though =D woot!
Cheers,

I am not very much older than you but (and this applies to everyone) I have a few words of wisdom (from experience and through close friends) for you to remember.
Don't begin participating in negative activities because you are legally able. A few things you had in your list of now (as of 18) legal activities:
Buy legal porn = Not damaging but is character breaker
Play lotto = Waste of time and money
gamble = Big potential waste of money and possible hard to break habits
buy tobbaco = Huge, hard to break habits
go to strip clubs = Nothing but trouble
I have seen many well meaning people take a nose dive because of the now that I am legal I must give it a try mentality. I am not trying to lecture you but merely warning you, thats all. But anyways, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
Disclaimer: These are my thoughts, opinions and suggestions

Yup. I won't use mine until I get a steady job and some savings... I know they are dangerous and I will use them only when I have the money to pay off the item.
Happy B-day dude............ can I have a piece of your cake. (I'm a addict so what)
I think you might need to get cake help... Seriously.
Who buys it? :Wink
Wow, you have to be 18 to get your own Bank account? I've had my own since I was 13.
I edited the first post ;)
Yes, you need to be 18 in NY for that. As well as any financial stuff. You can get a bank account with your parent's name on it (I believe you need to be 16 for that). You don't get a debit or ATM card. You can only deposit money by yourself. You can not withdraw money by yourself. By law, you must have a parent with you when withdrawing money... But I can walk into the bank and take $500 out and the guards do nothing...
Its a stupid law, if you ask me. My cousin NJ had a bank account since he was 16ish with the same place I have mine now, but they give him full rights. He gets a debit/atm card and can do what he wants.. His mom's name is still on the card and account though.
I know in NY (don't know about other states) Bank of America offers some more stuff to minors if they are working.
Stupid laws as I said... The theory behind it is when you're a minor you can't manage your money well and you're immature... I've seen some kids on and other forums who are like 13/14 and are FAR more mature than some 20+ year olds out there... Hell, I've seen 26 year olds who act like 12 year olds...
Here you can drive at 16, and have a bank account whenever!... and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
NY is a crazy place to drive :S You gotta be 18. It kind of sucks, but at the same time.. Car insurance and gas is EXPENSIVE. Not to mention there really isn't anywhere to drive.. Or any parking for that matter. You can get to just about anywhere with the public train/bus system in NY. $2 gives you one ride. To drive to my college it would be about 20-25miles and 30 minutes or so on a highway with no traffic or 1hr 30min with traffic. To get there on train its $2 and 1 hr of my time. Those 20 miles would cost me $4 for gas (assuming the car is around 20-30mpg). Hell, not worth it especially since parking is $7/hr near my college unless I get there at 7am and park on the street.

LOL! Don't worry man. I just gave them as examples.
Porn is a waste of money. Free porn online. Not that I watch it though.
Lotto, yes. total waste of money. I am not planning on playing ever.. Just want to get one of those scratch cards..
Gambling is bad and can cause addiction. Addiction is not good. I'd rather get addicted to WoW than gambling :P Cheaper.
tobacco is bad for you and won't ever use. I find it nasty (girls and guys, quit smoking now!)
strip clubs, um, no comment... As you can probably see I spend my entire day on 3GM. I don't go out much, erm, ever...
And here. :thumb

Ohh! I baked an APPLE PIE! It should be ready in about 10 minutes. I checked on it not long ago and it was almost ready :)
AH WUB PIE!
I'm baking a Pecan (http://www.3dgameman.com/forums/showpost.php?p=276686&postcount=118) pie for the birthday party this saturday :)
Last week or so, my mom and I went to a treo guitar show at BBKings and I had some Pecan Pie. Oh man was it awesome! So I'm going to bake one as they are yummy =D
So far I've gotten a new wallet, chocolates (yay!), $200, book(s) about Bushido (japan ftw) and samurai stories, and a razer/shaving thing (yay! I'm starting to look like that 40 year old guy on the other side of the "16-18 year old girl' on MSN =P).
I will get the rest of my presents on Sat. Most of it money I believe.. My mom will also get me a liquid cooling system (woot!) when I decide on what I want to do with the other money I got... I will probably get something from my tobuy list:
Gigabyte 790FX DQ6 AM2+ Mobo
AMD HD 3870
AMD Phenom X4 9500 (2.2GHz)
2x2 GB DDR2-1066 ram (vista hungry)
woot! pie ready actually! =D TTYL! I'm ending this one short ;)
Cheers,

I wish you all the best for the probably the coolest year of your life. Man, I wish I was 18 yet. 16 was already cool in Germany this summer. Enjoying legal beer with friends and no parents as far as you can see. Well, 17 will be quite good, too. Not having to worry about ebgames not selling me rated M games. Well, 18 is definitly the coolest in the US, so enjoy it. It expires in 365 days:KICK ASS
About your addiction, I think many of us have had some sort of a gaming addiction. For example I was hooked on Counterstrike a year ago. I used to wake up early, just so I can play before school starts. When I came home I grabbed some kind of a snack and kept playing till about 11pm, when I started doing my homework. I experienced many things that you did. I started focusing on the center of my vision, just like I would do on the crosshair in Counterstrike. I also had thoughts about killing people, which really scared me. My marks decreased significantly and my parents didn't know what to do about it, since I run pretty much everything that uses electricity around the house. Well, one night I called the Kids Help Phone, mainly because of my violent thoughts. They were able to help me get out of this addiction. After about two weeks I had almost forgotten about Counterstrike. I occasionally played against my friends but I never played longer than half an hour a day. What helped me get out of the craziness? All the person at Kids Help Phone told me to do is to think of all the other things in my life. My friends, my family, my hobbies besides video games. This made me wake up and think about what I have done. I was about to waste my life on a silly game where I point the screen at another virtual person and simply click. Sure, it's fun. But it's not worth throwing all other, more important, values away.
Anyways, this day is about you, and not about my experiences. I'm glad you came over your addiction and that you are thinking about the new fun you are able to have now that you're 18. Listening to a lecture of psychology might not be the best thing to do on a birthday, but it shows that your parents are helping you become a better person.
Have fun with your friends and family and enjoy your life. We are glad to have you here on 3dGameMan!:Thumb

Friends? Huh? I am on 3GM the entire day, I don't really have friends. At least none that are within a 200 mile radius from me...
I quit my addiction cold turkey though... Mainly because I ran out of funds to pay for the $15/m subscription to WoW. I hope to get back in the game because I REALLY miss my guild. But I don't intend to play as much as I used to.
Psychology was hell today... The class was delayed by one hour because we got a new professor who is VERY hard. He grades much harder and goes much faster X_X'' Oh well, I'll live through it...
Now I need to figure out how to shave without cutting myself, lol. Anyone have good tutorials online? =P

Well he jumped out behind me while I was shaving my mustach. I chopped my upper lip. I bleed all over my shirt but couldn't change since my school bus would arrive any moment and I had to run outside. All day everyone kept laughing at the blood and the look on my face.

Thats not very pleasant.
Just keep your mustache, and don't shave it till the winter holidays. Then you can dye it white, and get a part-time job as a santa, entertaining smaller kids.

SHAVE WITH THE WHISKERS!!! Its a hell of a lot easier to shave down instead of up lol. Anyway, who says we have to be mature to be "alive?" I'm getting close to 25 on dec. 24, and my wife loves my silly side and all (few) of my friends goof around having a good times without breaking the LAW! I was stupid in college.. threw my life away from partying too much among other things but I'm over that. I know games that had me addicted like FFX1 and Socom Combine Assault had me playing all day(hell all my waking period beside work and school). We all go through that in different hobbies, whether it be cars, computers, movies, dancing, sports where we think about it 24/7. Anyway, happy belated birthday and happy birthday to me soon! I know my wife is buying me a new HP 2207 22" lcd monitor even though she can't hide from me, I can track where she goes online! Whoohoo, so my new rig budget has been increase! Hmmmmmmmmmm, I like pie too especially pumpkin! I got one waiting in the fridge to bake lol
