View Full Version : Why we live as long as we do...

On the first day, God created the dog and said: 'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.'
The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?'
So God agreed
On the second day, God created the monkey and said: 'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span.'
The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?'
God agreed.
On the third day, God created the cow and said:
'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.'
The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?'
Again, God agreed.
On the fourth day, God created man and said: 'Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years.'
But man said: 'What? Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?'
'Okay,' said God, 'Just remember. You asked for it.'
So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.
Life has now been explained to you.
There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I'm doing it as a public service.

Sadly, married men actually live longer (between 5 to 10 years avg., varies by study), because we are scared to die without our wife's permission!
Married women die younger, because the men frustrate them so.

I think it's actually a combination of them.
For the first 20 years, man eats, sleeps, and plays with himself. Then he wishes he could die but is too afraid to out of worry about what the wife will do with all his stuff.

Then why is it that in the older days closer to the day sof gods creation of stuff, that we lived much shorter life spans...
if you ask me everything in life could be related to a video game. Life is the game itself, and the different version of life is the different species. They're are no expansion packs just updates (inventions and etc.). It is one major ass MMORPG... and everything is done by our gaming selves and when we sleep is when they are not gaming... if they don't play often enough we become suicidal.
I could think of more but that would be kickass... oh and the GOD's are what we would call the game creators, and in the olden times the large amount of GODS was due to the fact that they had so many developers one for each thing they assigned an in game GOD for each of them. Then the game became more popular, and they just let the owner become the GOD, but the dispute between gamers is who is the owner? Thus we have multiple religions etc.
Yeah I really don't have the time to create a whole story but its an interesting thought at what could possibly be a reality (yeah right...).

That's rather reversed, isn't it? The Torah/Bible mentions that early people lived long lives. Heck, Noah lived to over 900 years and was drunk most of the time!
Even the Greeks, Egyptians, and the Mayans commented on "heroes" who lived several hundred years.

Religion is not about scientific accuracy, it is about faith. Faith is the firm belief in something for which there is no proof.

According to ancient Mayan, Chinese, Indian and Egyptian civilizations, the year 2012 is most significant for human civilization. The way we live and our perception about life, death and happiness will not be the same after December 2012. Many say the extra-terrestrials will tell us that we are all slaves. Some scientists are seeing evidence of Magnetic Pole reversal in the earth as well the Sun something we have not scene for millions of years. Some say that the dark matter will engulf our solar systems and cause a premature supernova of our Sun. According to a group of scientists the earth will survive but natural calamity will be unthinkable.

She did triple post. It does not matter if each response was to someone else. She could have used multi-quoting.

I'm sure that little button in the lower right of each post with the " and + on it makes all the sense in the world to you, but if you were on an Iranian board, would it be quite as sensible - particularly if they ude something else for those symbols? Would you know what kinds of responses are acceptable on that board? Would you have a clue why AbdulTheButcher is climbing up your butt for quoting the post just above yours (after looking up each word in an English/Arabic dictionary)? Within a handful of posts? Would you think him a little rude for doing that when you are a brand new member on that board?

Take it however you want. You are the one making the claims.
Did I say anything offensive to anyone?
I simply gave a suggestion to not multi-post when there is no need.
You can't seem to identify the difference from giving a suggestion to being rude.
You voiced an objection to someone posting more than once in a row. You did not follow with a suggestion on how to keep from repeating that offense. When you do that kind of thing it is taken as rude and inflammatory.
All you need to do is look at this post and the one you quoted to see a "suggestion" in action. I voiced an objection/criticism on how you handled your reply to Nancy. I followed that objection/criticism with (multiple) suggestion on how you can avoid doing that in the future.
You see, It is easy to pick holes in someone else's contributions. But when you criticize with out providing a real suggestion on hot to keep from repeating what you see as a mistake, it remains nothing more than a criticism. This isn't rocket science here. It is simple courtesy. Nobody likes having their contributions criticized.
In Nancy's case you criticized her for posting 3 times (triple-post by your definition) instead of using one to do it. You implied to her that she should use a single post to respond to 3 people. Then LEFT IT HANGING THERE. You did NOT explain to her HOW to do that even though she told you in her posts that she was unfamiliar with this forum. THAT was not a "suggestion" bud. It was a criticism. Plain and simple.
The bottom line is that people learn from their mistakes. No one can learn from thin air.
I agree. But usually the learning happens when the are shown or told how to keep from repeating them. Personally I see no "mistake" in Nancy posting 3 times in a row. Those posts were not repeated verbatim. They were 3 separate responses to 3 separate people. I saw no problem with that. Neither did any of the staff here.
When I read your post at 8:14 a.m, it was much more toned down than this.
You trying to sound "tough" isn't working.
Heh, apparently you missed the one right after that. What I left was taken directly from that revised version - I cut out the nastier stuff. If you think what was left behind was worse, take that and multiply that by 5 and you will have an idea.
Frankly I really don't give a crap if you think I was trying to "sound tough" or not. All I see is one member here jumping on a newbie for an imagined infraction of the way he thinks this board should be run.
I have yet to see anything in the rules here that prohibits what you call double or triple posting. Hell, I've seen Tivon have runs of 5 or more posts in a row when he was trying to pad his post count. Did I see you giving him "suggestions"? Why not? Tivon knows all about the multi-quoting - If I'm not mistaken, he even made the buttons. He has also been around this board longer than either of us to have a good idea on what constitutes acceptable behavior.
So, you want a challenge? Try this: Please find the rule from this board's staff that says that posting more than once or even twice in succession is forbidden, or even marginally frowned upon. I would be really interested in seeing what you find.

There is no rule. It is just common sense.
For instance, if you want to call your friend and talk about 3 topics, you would talk about all three in one call. Most people would not hang up and redial after each topic.
There are a maximum of 25 posts per page without any modifications done. If one person decides to quad-post all of the sudden, then that will create more pages that the reader will have to go through. That is indeed an annoyance.
If everyone decided to quad-post, we would have to read much less of different peoples opinions before we would go on to the next page.

So why are you picking on the newbie? Tivon, bejohnson, myself and others have done the same damn thing on many occasions. Who died and made you the expert on how someone should post here?
Personally I see the only reason you might have for singling her out is that she has a largish sig and is advertising her company in it. Perhaps you don't like seeing sigs like that over and over. I've griped about large sigs myself in the past and been ignored. If there is a rule against that, there is staff available here to correct her - all you need to do is report her.
Personally no longer care how someone posts here, whether or not their grammar/spelling is unreadable or how big their sig is. I am tired of beating my head against that particular wall.
I will however step up when I spot someone picking on newly joined or language-challenged members. I see open criticism such as what you have shown this new member that as bullying and rude. You want to bully someone? Try it with someone that will hand some back.

The mouse is right, cat. There are better ways to go about giving people "advice" that isn't so public and is better appreciated. A private message for example, probably would have been taken seriously and with better reception. I guess polite behavior and common decency aren't common sense or practice.
Let me give you an analogy of what you did. Let's pretend you have a friend that has a booger hanging out of their nose. You're sitting across the room and notice it. Instead of taking them aside and letting them know about it, you just yell it across the room thereby attracting attention to it. People laugh, and your friend becomes embarrassed.
Regardless of how well intended you might have thought, the results is you handled it poorly. And worse off, you offer no apology despite that your recipient has openly admitting of being spited. Furthermore, you continue to disrespect us all by continually trying to justify yourself. WTFever.
Mouse's post deserves the sal lolcat pic, but all that attracts is deletions of posts.

Good. I am amazed that you are very familiar with Chinese traditional culture. :thumb
I've learned a thing or two over the years. I can't say that I'm well versed but certain things have drawn my attention to random facts. By the way, have you had the chance to reference the poetic and pictorial prediction? I'm curious what's your thoughts about it.
p.s., on the behalf of everyone who is decent and upright on this board, I apologize for you having to observe such rude behavior and I hope that you're not turned away by it.

The mouse is right, cat. There are better ways to go about giving people "advice" that isn't so public and is better appreciated. A private message for example, probably would have been taken seriously and with better reception. I guess polite behavior and common decency aren't common sense or practice.
Manic stressed the fact that she is unfamiliar with foreign threads.
She may have not known that there is a private message feature;)

I will however step up when I spot someone picking on newly joined or language-challenged members.
How do you know that I am not language challenged?
Maybe someone is writing all of this for me.

Manic stressed the fact that she said she was unfamiliar with foreign forums (not threads :P ).
Also by default you will get an email when you get a PM. Also this board, as well as my own will embed the actual message in that email. I am sure she uses email. Nice try ;)

If it wasn't you doing all that writing then a constructive suggestion would be to give your ghost writer (robot cat?) a swift kick in the ass for pissing people off and blaming it on you. :KICK ASS
