This is a little old but since no one posted it I thought I would.
The Polk County State Attorney's Office says it will charge all eight teens believed to be involved in the beating of a classmate as adults. The suspects will have their first appearance in a Polk County courtroom on Friday.
Being charged as an adult carries with it much stiffer penalties, possibly including up to life in prison on the kidnapping charges. Facing charges of battery, false imprisonment and kidnapping are Mercades Nichols, 17, Brittini Hardcastle, 17, April Cooper, 14, Cara Murphy, 16, Britney Mayes, 17, Kayla Hassell, 15, Zachary Ashley, 17, and Stephen Schumaker, 18. The two boys are accused of acting as lookouts outside the house in which the beating took place on March 30. -cbs (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/04/10/national/main4007303.shtml)

This makes me sick. I hope they try all the girls as adults, and the boys for aiding and abetting. I can't speak for US law, but in the UK, if tired as adults all those involved could go to prison for a number of years and get a taste of their own medicine.
Lindsay's parents have decided to have her home-schooled, they explained on The Early Show Wednesday. Just goes to show how things like this can mess up someone's life. If I were those girl's prosecutor, they'd be in trouble. I just hope their prosectutor will try and get them down for as many offences as possible to maximise their jail time. There is no excuse for this.

Hope everyone evolved has a fun time in jail being someones prison _____. If that was my daughter or sister getting messed up like that there is no telling what crazy things I'd do to them. What a bunch of losers, they deserve the same treatment and need to be punished as adults. Now that their pictures are in video and they have that 15 minutes of fame. Maybe someone will pay them a visit and even the score..

It is pretty easy be brave when ganging up on a single person and beat the crap out of them.
The problem is that this is not an isolated or even uncommon case. The difference is that 99.9% of cases like this go unnoticed because there is no graphic proof that it took place and who the participants were. This is newsworthy because through the magic of video recording not only were the participants immediately caught committing their crime, the were also immediately identifiable and held accountable in a courtroom. Yes indeed.
Those kids are in for a heap o trouble.

"Zachary Ashley, 17"?
Yep, he'll have a BIG time in prison. And he thought his last name was trouble in grade school. All his new buddies will want to find out how he really got that name...

I'm talking about when they are little. When they are 17 it's too late for that. It might be good for them to spend a few nights in a nasty jail and show them what it's like behind bars. I know my first trip to jail was enough. I forced myself to go to another school and dropped those friends. It hurt, but friends that get you into trouble are the worst. You like them, but you can never escape their issues, be it drugs, or fighting or stealing you name it. Kids today are dysfunctional because parents are either unwilling or unable to properly discipline their children. Here sit down and watch TV or play this 17+ video game. In my teen years everyone had a TV in their rooms, that's total social dysfunction. Also you can't just spank an older child an expect them to get better. At the older years sending them to their room works better. If they have toys you can remove those as well. If they rebel and threaten to run away.. you let them, they will be back if not already rotten to the core. Trust me, I don't punish my kids in public, but they will get a good spanking or a long time out. I also respond to their negative attitudes harshly. You can clearly see that that one girl in the video had some emotional problems. Funny how they where more scared about hurting the china than the girl, fear of the parents. If someone got me that mad about myspace stuff to beat someone up it's time to stay off the computer. Why does know one have self control anymore? I know it sounds heartless, I do care, but if they are my kids I want them to show respect to others and be generally good people. That's not an easy thing to do these days with the Internet as a child's way of escaping the pressures of life.

yea i know what u mean. i never got like a tv in my room as a kid and stuff like that and im 21 and like all kids today have them. my sisters kids are 5 and 2 and they have a tv and computer in there room and hardly get told off. in cases like that vid girls are just as bad that boys. i would of just gone round and give them a beating.

Kids today are dysfunctional because parents are either unwilling or unable to properly discipline their children.Another reason to punish the parents too. Threat this like RICO. Seize all the parent's assets and then throw them in jail for a while. The parents had a responsibly to society. They let us down, but more importantly, they let the children down.
How damaging will the kids be once they pass 18 and become "adults"? It's not some magic gateway they pass through to achieve maturity. It's something built on all they learn in life. This bunch seems not to have learned much respect for nor responsibility to anyone but themselves. Society doesn't need people like that. Put them in jail and throw away the key. :(

Let the public come by and give those "children" a whack all day long. That will teach the rest of the kids something useful. Maybe Hillary's "It Takes A Village" idea has some merit... :thumb

I am 17 years old living in Oregon and I believe that stuff like this is absurd.
Tivon heard one girl mention myspace, I heard that too. I have a myspace and talk to people on it, but when I talk to all my friends about myspace in person its more to joke about it or to remind them about some test or something.
Also with everyone having a TV and things in there rooms. Ever since I was a child I had to earn my own belongings. I have never had a TV in my room and just got a computer in my room my freshman year that I had to pay for (Junior now). I had to pay for everything I have technology wise in my room, other than that my parents pay for the basic things, food, bed, clothes etc.
I think most people my age are spoiled rotten and they need some form of punishment to knock it out of their brain that treating other people this way is not the right thing to do. When people let their emotions get out of control or in this case their want for popularity on the internet to increase it never works when you involve this sort of violence.

I grow up in a poor home, your typical white trash trailer. Just so happens that my Dad was a TV repair man at the time. So having a TV in each room was the norm after awhile. No one really talked unless we crossed paths going to the kitchen or laundry rooms. However that's not the same in my home today. We eat dinner at the table and there is one TV and computer for entertainment.

Not me. I'll be very happy to administer an ass whooping to each of them.* :Wink

That might be a little difficult at our age when there are 8 of them & the majority are 17 & 18 year olds.
1 on 1, that girl (or we) might have a chance of administering some whup-ass, but when you have that many ganging up on you it is time to pull out that sidearm/sword/bo/{other lethal weapon here} to even things up a mite.
