So do I, but when I have to fill up tomorrow in preparation for next week's commutes to/from work, it is going to cost me about the same. Ouch!

Why can't you take a bus to work? :)
There's always public transportation that is more economical than driving a car.
Me? I just take a bus to Tallahassee Mall to buy some stuff from RadioShack or go to Best Buy. But when it comes to college, Tallahassee Community College is right across the street from my apartment. When I go to the grocery store, I just walk about 1.8 miles from my apartment and take a bus back (I have my TCC card, which the city bus accepts) -- it's not to far, as it's good exercise. The convienence store is about .4 miles from my apartment. My mom works at the capitol, which is not far from the bus station (C.K. Steel Plaza). She just takes a bus to the bus station and walks over to the Capitol -- good exercise for my mom.
I don't want to turn this thread to alternative transportation, but public transportation is always out there. My suggestion is, try to live a life without cars. Use public transportation to your advantage, if you can. Make sure you schedule and plan ahead of time, because if you "get in the car and go," you'll pay more for it and it's bad for the environment.
I hope I can be of help to anyone.

WTF!! You just wrote that you live within easy walking or transit distance from everything. There are a large portion of us that do not live in major urban centers and must depend on our vehicles.
I live 50KM away from where I work. A bus would take me 1.5Hrs one way to/from work. A bike would take me all day.
Buses do not run on the schedule I work.
I live is a semi-rural community I'm lucky if I see 4 buses each day.
The bus routes that are available for me to not go in the direction I work. I would have to travel 3 times as far to reach my office.
I often attend meetings that are some distance away from my office. Sure I could take a cab, but where am I saving the environment? A cab would burn as much (More!) gas taking me to my meetings as my own car would. A bus? Don't make me laugh!
On the other side:
I take approx. 30-40 minutes to get to/from work.
Both myself and my wife travel. I don't drive alone in my car.
When i buy a car, i get the one that offers the best gas mileage vs feature that I can afford.
The route I take is as direct as it can get. I do not need to take a circuitous route to get to my office.
I don't have to stare at people like you sitting in the seats around me.
I don't have to travel standing up all the way to my office. I always get a nice comfy seat.
Finally - how I get to work is my own damn business. I don't need some smartass kid that thinks he knows it all telling me how I should going about my daily business. I know damn well how much transportation costs. I freaking pay for it thru the nose! Sure I could live within transit distance to where I work, but I end up paying 3 times as much for my house. No thanks!
Also remember that there are many professional people out there that drive vehicles for a living. How does your suggestions help them?

it just blew my front tree down
split straight down the middle
thankfully it fell into the street instead of on the house, but it still means some clean up work for me
edit: that wasnt so bad. the city will come haul away all the branches. the trunk part got cleaned up, but the rest of the tree will have to come down soon tho

There is a study in progress that is studying the effect buses have on the surrounding traffic. It is believed that with the wasted fuel and delays in traffic factored in because of the buses being in the traffic mix and slowing up the average flow that they actually are costing time, fuel and money.

Then I guess according to your logic I have to either quit my job or explore other ways of pulling a 40 ton trailer up and down hills and mountains.:Yea right
Global warming is now becoming global whining if you ask me.

Didn't really see all that much of it where I am. Got worse rainstorms during June/July. No flooding this time and the wind wasn't all that bad.
I expected & planned for a lot worse.

You should be a teleportation device that will allow you to bend space. This way you could travel any amount of distances in seconds. Not only would you have a device that would save you time but it would even generate a substantial amount of income for you.

I do agree with the above, however I don't think we should be messing with time machines or messing with time in general. Chances are, messing around with time will screw us all over.

Yep. A time machine would lead to nothing but trouble. Bending space is much more profitable and convenient.

Nevermind...Typical kid. When you can't argue your point, you denigrate the other person's right to make their point as if they are too stupid to even speak. That's not intelligence, just pretending to be. :lmao :rofl2

Unfortunately I have my partially finished time machine for sale (http://www.ultimatecomputingonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115).
I would gladly trade it even-Steven for a working instantaneous teleportation device though...
