OK guys, let's check out those Googling and searching skills. :Wink

Identify the following as to it's name, when it was made, what it was first called and what it weighs nominally.

It took me all of 2 minutes to find a complete description and report on the object.

Hint: Yes it is an engine. :spin

Found 'er.

It is a Napier Lion VII (http://www.enginehistory.org/G&jJBrossett/Napier%20Lion%20VII.JPG). I couldn't find original image, but thats pretty darn close, if not identical! You may have 'shopped it, and dropped quality.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napier_Lion

The Napier Lion was a 12-cylinder W-block inline aircraft engine built by Napier & Son starting in 1917, and ending in the 1930s. A number of advanced features made it the most powerful engine of its day, and kept it in production long after contemporary designs had stopped production. It is particularly well known for its use on a number of racing designs, in aircraft, boats and cars.

I found it by searching for "air plane engine 12 cylinder" on Google Images when I came across this image:
http://wheels-and-wings.org.uk/images/daimler-benz-db-605a-engine.jpg
(3rd page)

I noticed there was an index of old engines so I looked through it until I found this engine:
http://wheels-and-wings.org.uk/napier-lion-vii-aero-engine.htm (Bingo!)
Then searched for "Napier Lion VII" on Google Images to confirm my find.

A concrete one. :Wink :Thumb

It's actually the Napier Lion III. Most of the details are on Wiki.

I think the word you're looking for is "lathe," as the definition of lathe is what you wrote.

It's not a lathe. The center piece can be wood, plastic or metal. The thing in the middle has a name and if you find out what that name is you are 90% on the way to an answer.

Hint: This device is an integral part of staying warm in the winter.

Not so much a googling skill test as a "what's this shown in the pic" test.

It is an electric bobbin winder. It is used to wind up spools (bobbins) of yarn (in turn used by someone to knit those sweaters, mittens & socks that keep you nice & toasty).

Its more of use keywords based on the picture to find info on google about what it is. Of course, people who know more about something have a head start, but its all fun still.

Yeah, but with these pics unless you have an idea of what it is there isn't gonna be a keyword.

No, it looks more like a light globe that goes in your lawnmower
