First Person Shooter on CTV

Bobafett has let us know about an upcoming documentary on Canada's CTV that will feature Counter-Strike. The unimaginatively titled First Person Shooter is sure to be both hilariously bad and maddening at the same time. Here is how it is described on CTV's webpage: (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20020823/game_addiction_020823/TopStories/story#top)

In a CTV documentary entitled "First Person Shooter" airing on Sept. 1, writer and director Robin Benger draws from his personal experience to delve into a disturbing world where game-hooked teens will do just about anything for their fix.

If you think that page (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20020823/game_addiction_020823/TopStories/story#top) is funny there is another CTV webpage about First Person Shooter (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/HTMLTemplate/!ctvNews/News/Docs/doc_firstperson.html) that has a streaming Windows Media video preview of the show that has some parts that are laugh out loud funny.

The show will contain some footage with Counter-Strike creator Minh Le. It may be the same gooseman interview that aired on CTV earlier this year. An image from Le's player model animations for Counter-Strike 2 which was in that earlier interview can be seen on the CTV's page.

The documentary was made by a father, Robin Benger, who is "panicked" about his son's Counter-Strike habit. Read First Person Shooter's website (http://www.firstpersonshooter.tv/index.html) where Benger's son is quoted as saying, "My Dad has made this dumbass documentary about videogames."

If you can pick up CTV don't forget to watch it Sept. 1.

hmm, seems pretty biased to me, being addicted to gaming is hell of a lot healther then drinking or doing drugs.. ".. they are no different then the alcohal or the pornography or the gun industries" *****'s need todo a little more research then watching their little kid yell out "DIE DIE HA HA" and automatically think that CS and all other first person shooter games are .. "simply mayhem"

maybe they should ban hockey too, since that involves violence and fighting. after that, maybe they should ban driving, because people get killed doing that too. and can openers, those can edges can kill people. television... oh, television can make people angry.

you know what lets just ban everything, because one or two people out of our six billion MIGHT possibly be risking death. :Yea right :Boring

what a good laugh though, thanks for the link.... :KICK ASS

Hockey has to be one of the most violent games, oh yea...and don't forget football. Both games have their own timeslots and days on television.

I like first person shooters and have not seen any ill effects of playing Quake...except to get frustrate at those little bots in "Nightmare" mode :).

Kids learn from their parents. If they are any bit violent, chances are they picked it up at home, or even at school from peers.

they should let SMART people make programs, like one of us. i could make a show about actual computers, and bring a dell in so i could smash it while laughing hysterically. then i could turn to the camera and say

"OMG H4X i pwnz j00 LOLOLZ"

of course, i dont know how i will say "LOLOLZ" but i will manage to transform it into a word as best i can. :KICK ASS

One night earlier this year, Ives tried desperately to get her son off the family computer where he was playing Counter-Strike over the Internet. She asked nicely, she demanded firmly. Finally, she reached for the computer's power button and his game world came to an abrupt end. Enraged, he grabbed his mother's wrist and twisted it. He then picked up the coffee table and threw it across the room, smashing it against the wall.

great, now everyone who doesn't know much about FPS' will suddenly think it'll turn their kids into mass murderers.. i'm glad my parents never really cared about my gaming habbits..

i know i would be damn pissed as all hell if my family members pulled the plug on my internet, thats just something you dont do. you can beat me, yell at me, send me to a foster home, but pulling away my internet is an act of cruelty.

Do parents forget what it's like to be a teenager? Probably. Every teen brain is capable of extreme mood shifts that can scare the pants off parents.

Sheesh, flipping off a computer that way is not adult to begin with.

yea but parents are scared of computers like they can murder you or something, they dont realize that it is like a tv or vcr, just more advanced. i wish parents would stop thinking such crazy thoughts and just learn how to use the damn things! its not hard, they even have tutorials you can buy! parents who think these games are "murder trainers" should be shot. if their own kids shot them, i would find it as a form of sadistic irony.... :p

"cstrike pc". Sounds like an oxymoron. "Politically-Correct Counter-Strike".

well first of all, they chose the wrong FPS to ***** about, if they want to nag they should have selected SOF2.... goriest game ever.....lol.

cstrike teaches teamwork and tactics, sof2 teaches how to peel someone's face off with an m4 :D
