i just messed around with some manual settings on my olympus c3040 zoom. before, it was an overexposing, blurry, color-paling clunker. now that i refined it, take a look at the results.

Digital Sin,
Here's the info and link to the new Sony F717 (5MP and USB2...)
"The DSC-F717 utilizes the same body design, five megapixel sensor and excellent five times optical zoom lens. New features include zoom via the lens ring, hot shoe, record and play histogram, ISO 800, Full Auto exposure, USB 2.0 and more. Thanks to leaks in the far east this camera is no surprise to many on the Sony Talk Forum..."

oh, you mean the Ultraviolet Cold Cathode? i have a blue one too, but IMO it takes away from the overall look of the case..... needs a deeper blue tint. is there like any blue clear sticky tape i can wrap the cathode in to make it "stronger" colored? right now it is more white than blue.....

That's what happens when you mess with the settings. Now, if we could ever keep those warranty seals on the back of those OEM computers. I swear, those things don't ever want to stay on.

They design those stickers with that glue that has to be melted to be applied, so if it comes off, it won't go back on, so therefore...
*still on phone, 30 min later...*
"Well the sticker was back there, wait a min. I think i see it, yeah, there it is"
"Where is it?"
"I see it in my past right after it FELL off, I tried to put it back on but it wouldn't go back on so i just threw it out." :KICKASS

The best thing about the Sony is the Carl Zeiss lens. Very, very nice.

i was adjusting things such as ISO levels, exposure, white level, etc.... took me a bit, but i got it to not overexpose anymore. also, the pictures are much more versatile now.... before i needed to take 4 or 5 to get a good one.... not anymore :D

BTW: GREAT PICS!!! How much did that camera cost you?
Digital Sin

at the time, around $450 with shipping.... now it can be had for around $390 or so. if i had only one gripe with it, it would have to be the long focus/shooting times..... other than that, it is superb.

The Olympus CAMEDIA C-3040 Zoom uses a 3.34 megapixel, 1/1.8-inch CCD matched to its digital optical zoom to provide outstanding picture quality. Offering the same award-winning compact design and features of the best-selling C-3030 Zoom, the C-3040 Zoom has further improved the performance of its high resolution CCD with its newly designed world's first super-bright F1.8 multi-element aspherical glass 3x zoom lens. This new design allows the C-3040 Zoom to achieve an extended flash working range and better low-light shooting capability to help deliver one of the highest levels of picture quality available in a 3-megapixel camera. Though the C-3040 Zoom includes features found in its predecessor such as auto and manual white balance, black-and-white or sepia shooting modes, auto exposure bracketing and QuickTime movie mode, there are also many enhancements. These include the new USB Storage Class Connectivity; the possibility to do a one touch white-balance; an increased digital zooming range in VGA mode (up to 5x); and a Scene Rotation function when viewing images on either the LCD or on a television.
$430 is the average internet price....

true the old professional cameras blow digital ones out of the water.... for now. but once that new technology comes out, "regular" cameras will be outdated.
my father has one of those manual photo cameras with all the little attachments, panoramic lens, tripod, etc.... its a nice camera, but getting a bit old.

Yeah, but BOOOO!!! to Olympus for not coming out with a digital body that can use the OM lenses! A lot of people have a LOT of money tied up in the lenses, but can't go digital without a whole new investment. (Or Pentax, for that matter!) It wouldn't need to be fancy, either.

Ok a little help here I am confused! I want to get a digital camera for taking pictures of stuff I am reviewing and I have a very limited budget.. I have two options I can get a new motherboard, cpu, heatsink, power supply, and memory from newegg.com and get an el cheapo $170 digital camera from my local Wal*Mart. The camera itself looks nice but I dont know if it takes good pictures. Or the second option is to scrap getting the new comp parts and just buying a really good digital camera.
BTW if I buy the parts this is what I will be getting..
MSI SIS 745 ULTRA (6561-010) Motherboard for AMD Retail (cheap but looks alright) for $64
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=13-130-337
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ OEM for $94
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=19-103-323
Antec 550W Power Supply For TRUE550 for $110
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=17-103-910
CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB 64MX64C2.5 PC-3200PT With Platinum - Silver Heat Spreader
for $179
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-145-414
Thermalright AX-7 for$28
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=35-109-002
Thermaltake SMART CASE FAN II for $18
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=35-999-111
And this is what I would be upgrading from
P4 1.4 Ghz Socket 423 Williamette
128 MB RDRAM PC800
Intel Monterrey Motherboard ( OEM Gateway board )
I bought my comp from gateway last may ( Before I really understood computer hardware ) :banghead
Thx for the help.... I bow to you all :hail

i agree, optical is the best, digital just blows up the picture and it looks all pixely, not very nice. My fav setting of my digi cam is the negative setting :devil
To most people it looks like junk, to me its art...
Digital Sin
09-06-2002, 05:25 PM
anything that people do themselves can be called art... other people can not see what truly goes into it, and that is why people often underestimate tasks or achievements...
but i love regular color, especially macro shots. i love doing zoom shots! wish i had a higher magnification lens....
