"Cayman has 2GB of GDDR5 memory and the controller of choice is 256-bit. While in terms of RAM quantity the card beats Nvidia's GTX 580 which has 1.5GB, we can definitely say anything over 1GB is overkill for most users, but it looks good for marketing purposes." | more

Crysis @ Max Settings 1920x1080 with AA will make use of 2GB vram.
Well for Eyefinity I think 2GB is a good idea. But me being a single screen user (for now) would have liked to see a bigger bus width.
1GB GDDR5 on a 512bit bus would have blown me away!
it serves alot in the case of an eyefinity with all graphics high in a game, great move from AMD
waiting 22nd now..

What, overkill? No such thing in the industry, look at AMD's newest CAD graphics card (link: www.amd.com/UK/PRODUCTS/WORKSTATION/GRAPHICS/ATI-FIREPRO-3D/V9800/Pages/v9800.aspx#4) with massive 4GB of RAM. Some Nvidia models have been shipped with even more in the past. All depends on your setup. With 30" displays at high resolutions like 2560x1600, you will need as much performance as you can get in order to get a decent framerate.
Definetly going to be on my shopping list, unless there's something even more "overkill" available.
