Nvidia fixed that with their new GF104 Chipset found in the 430, 450, 460 and 580 cards.
If gaming would be the priority I would go AMD all the way, did it in the past and never was disappointed.
My current PC consists of an AMD graphics card and an Intel Xeon processor. The only reason why Intel was that at the time Opterons were a little pricey and I needed to run that machine stable 24x7 for about 2 years and yes it actually did and still is.
I never liked the newer Nvidia cards much, mostly because they are more expensive, consume more power and do not really offer much more performance than Radeon video cards.
AMD cpu and gpu for saving money, Intel and Nvidia for performance.
I'd certainly go with AMD since I have AMD machines and those budget CPUs are a bargain, along with the cost of the budget ATX motherboard (seriously, if you go with AMD CPUs for about $100, you probably don't need to spend $80+ for a motherboard if all you want is a single video card to put in your motherboard.
oh 1 year later i see that my i7 950 is number 2...kinda hurts knowing its half price now
I'm not going there again, too many uncontrollable pop ups- Not as conventional and organized as Rodney's advertisement.
