
Robert Rodat, best known as the screenwriter of Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot, will now try his hand at adapting World of Warcraft for the big screen. Warcraft film director Sam Raimi revealed that Rodat will handle the writing duties in a recent interview with MTV News.
Blockbuster has announced that it will close 960 retail stores before the end of 2010. Between 280 and 300 units will be closed before the end of this year.
In case you have not been paying attention, Blockbuster has been having a difficult time over the last couple of years; and while the company has about 7,000 stores worldwide, a good number of those stores are just no longer profitable.
Scarily determined to live up to the PlayStation 3's new "It Only Does Everything" slogan, Sony is touting the ability to order Papa John's pizza direct from the console, complete with a dedicated Papa John's button on the system's internet browser homepage. "Hungry? Publisher Tor Books has made the first chapter of the upcoming book in The Wheel of Time fantasy series, The Gathering Storm, available for free from its website. The last three books in The Wheel of Time are being written by established fantasy author Brandon Sanderson, who was selected by the widow of the original author, Robert Jordan, after tragically passed away in September 2007 to finish Jordan’s masterpiece.
Recently, Google has been in talks with Hollywood studios in California to leverage YouTube’s massive web-based video platform into a world of allowing fresh movie and film releases to be streamed over the internet.
According to several sources, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Lions Group Entertainment are both considering the possibility of establishing a streaming online movie rental service through YouTube. While the discussions have been realized at a very preliminary level, the service would essentially counter the likes of Amazon’s Video On Demand rentals, Apple’s iTunes movie rental service, and even Sony’s PlayStation Network movie rentals.
