As Nokia World draws closer, our favorite Finnish phone maker has just taken the wraps off one of several new handsets set to drop in the near future. Yet another full touchscreen device that looks exactly like the 5800, the 5230’s features include a 3.2-inch 360×640 display, 2 megapixel camera, aGPS, 70MB of internal memory and feature three flavors of dual-band 3.6Mbps UMTS/HSDPA (850/1900, 850/2100 and 900/2100). So what could possibly be interesting about this handset, you’re wondering?
Google Voice users with friends and relatives living north or the border, rejoice. Not that calls to Canada are overly expensive in the first place, but the Google Voice team has decided to eat that marginal expense — just as they did when they were GrandCentral — and make calling to Canada free once again. That’s right Google Voice users, the next time you need to call and taunt your Canadian friends when your team is playing the Blue Jays it won’t cost you a dime. Now if only you could initiate those calls from a nifty little app on your iPhone without having to jailbreak…
In a rumor that could spell doom (ok, maybe not doom) for Microsoft Windows Mobile, DigiTimes is reporting that Microsoft will adopt a two pronged approach for its upcoming Windows Mobile handsets when it finally launches Windows Mobile 7. Rather than go full bore with Windows Mobile 7 in early 2010 (as was expected), Microsoft will allegedly debut a more touch-friendly version of Windows Mobile 6.5 in early 2010. This will be followed by Windows Mobile 7-powered handsets sometime in Q4 2010.
Remember all of those rumors about a PlayStation 3 price drop and a new, slimmer model? Well they might not be rumors for much longer as just hours before Sony is slated to begin its press conference at Gamescom in Cologne, several leaks have sprung from a few notable retailers. FYE was first up when an employee snapped a pic of a new banner that has the 80GB model going for a “new low price” of $299.99 and the 160GB Uncharted bundle for $399.99.
