Google Gives to Wikipedia

Google Inc., the Internet's most profitable company, is giving $2 million to support Wikipedia, a volunteer-driven reference tool that has emerged as one of the Web's most-read sites.

Wikimedia Foundation, owner of Wikipedia, said Wednesday that Google has donated $2 million to further develop the popular encyclopedia and other projects.

Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia's founder, broke the news on Twitter on Tuesday, followed by a formal announcement from the nonprofit organization.

Bust of Major Hacker Ring

China announced a major bust of computer hackers, with state media saying officials had shut what they called the country's largest distributor of tools used in malicious Internet attacks.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of making hacking tools available online, the state-run Xinhua news agency said Monday.

Intel Sees Market for PCs Stabilizing This Year

Intel Corp.'s chief executive said he expects PC unit sales for the year will end their declines and be "flat to slightly" up.

"I think [the PC industry] is more than resilient, it's amazing," said Paul Otellini, who spoke at Intel's annual forum for technology developers here.

This year's Intel Developer Forum follows an industry slump that hit bottom in last year's fourth quarter and has gradually eased since then. Mr. Otellini noted that many forecasters had originally expected a big drop in unit personal-computer sales for 2009, and most still call for a slight decline.
