People use IE for various reasons, there's a big reason web designers/developers scorn it.
Many work with organizations and those organizations have been tied to specific hardware/software until their contract expires. So, within an entire organization/company, the people there may be forced to use IE until they can renew a contract to get new stuff. When you work with these companies, you have no choice but to support the browser.
The other group is what I would call technologically unaware, but not necessarily stupid. They are content with simply browsing the web, unaware that there is a better experience waiting for them. They see IE not as the best browser (if even they know what one is), but a browser that gets things done. The fact that IE is coupled with Windows means it will always have a large share.
Average users will always outweigh designers/developers/gamers. But Chrome/Firefox may be overtaking IE, so there seems to be a switch gears.
IE may not always be the dominant browser, but it will have a strong portion of the market in my opinion. Just being there by default, the user gets established with it and isn't motivated to move if there is no purpose.
When users want a new experience as bad as they want to get air if they were drowning, they will find it.
1st - Posting This from Opera
Before IE9, Using IE was rather strong evidence you either used horrid websites-MS Exchange Driven Sites in particular-or were an idiot. Sorry XP Users, but If you are using IE8 there's a good chance you are stupid as the IE7 model is the one used even by Microsoft websites. IE9 is a major improvement over past models, by opinion I find it inferior to Firefox and Chrome, but if it offers what you want use it.
Chrome feels like a child's toy- lots of colors and few buttons; that being said it is the only browser that is truly developed out of profit motive. For minimal browsing 'The Facebooks' and checking e-mail I would recommend it.
Firefox was my browser of choice until I took up Opera. It represents a vast improvement over IE and is very fast to load-up. That said when you start opening tabs it slows down and eats RAM.
Opera is powerful by default. I load-up opera with at least a half-dozen tabs at any given point, making it the best choice for me. Speed dial is a nice feature, Opera has an integrated RSS/Mail Client, The download manager is awesome, tab preview is great, and tab grouping is a must-have for me. With Opera I feel like a grown-up, like an actual user. Opera will crash if you double load it-mash the icon before it runs.
I have Opera, Firefox, and IE9 and I use them in that order. No Chrome for me.
Safari users, I have no respect for you.
Un no, it does not, I kind of feel like this poll was a waste of time but meh, something to talk about?
I only use Internet Explorer, because I don't like the other's
Can you please tell us wy you don't like other browsers?

The average computer user just wants to hop on and browse, not caring or knowing that there are better alternatives. But the "average user" could be a scientist working for NASA
I will agree that IE9 is better than the other browsers before it. I'm not sure what Mozilla is up to these days busting out with a new version like every month. FF6 is about to be released, I'd like a little more time to make sure my add-ons are going to work.
IQ don´t have anything to do with the browser, there are people that use IE9 because the the only browser they know and other because they like it thats it. I use chrome in W7 and OSX because chrome keep in sinc all my bookmarks and settings... IE9 is a huge leap on the right way considering the other versions!!!!
If that's the reason you like Google Chrome I recommand you to try Opera or Firefox.
Remi1115
IE9 isn't that bad actually. It's completely copied Chrome. The only issue I have with it is being able to change from Bing to Google, so I use Chrome.
But IE is a necessary evil, incase your third party browser dies and you have no other choice to use IE to download it again. Microshaft wins again...
IE Suck
1. stock homepage msn and not a blanc page
2. i dislike bling search engine
3. the looks of apple

IE good points
1. dont know havnt used it since windows xp

everything runs fine on my asus 1015pem netbook
Internet Explorer(9) is faster, better, and has less add-ons than firefox, google chrome, and every other browser. You don't need to use no-script every time you open a new webpage(firefox) and it has a better, more appealing layout, rather than the searchbar alone(Chrome/opera). And no, I don't have a low IQ, I had a test at my middle school and got the number one standardized test score in my entire state.
Personally my view is that you have to be stupid to consciously use any web browser that requires you to reboot whenever it is updated.
The sad part is that if you use Windows, you are in essence using Internet Explorer whether you know it or not.
I think I would have called this poll:
Do people that choose to use Internet Explorer have lower IQs?
This Firefox 5 is great for deleting Anonymous jerks. :/
Anyone else have anything negative to say about 3dGameman while I'm here to delete unwanted posts?
Way to show your IQ
Tivon youre a tiran... lol
Hehe, I just don't take no BS from Anonymous posters anymore.. They know the drill, Rodney doesn't want comments about his VR's on YouTube anymore. The other stuff like talking smack about our website or the quality of his VR's is another personal thorn under my skin. People just have no idea how many hours it takes to make this stuff happen. As you can see, Rodney has been away for a while this summer. Let's hope he is recuperating and not giving up the battle of PC hardware.
To be honest, Internet Explorer 9 is just as fast as Chrome and Firefox. I personally usually run with Chrome but that is only because all my bookmars and login info is already on that. They are all good. I personally would use any of the 5 major browsers. They are all good. Anyone who says otherwise, is either ignorant or a fanboy.
Seriously? This comparison could be made with millions of different products. Some people just want to go on the internet and get on with it without caring how they got there just like when I get in my car, as long as it gets me from A to B safely and looks alright I don't care how fast it goes or how big the engine is!
This is just PC elitists patting each other on the back.
I wanted to write a witty comment about the self boasting firefox/chrome using pricks who think they're smart, buuuut.... meh, why should I care, let them feel smarter if they want to :P
Personally I use IE for normal web surfing, and Firefox for video downloading. Oh and IE actually runs faster than the other explorers on my PC.
Oh and tbh, the people who actually fell for that study and quickly started to laugh at IE are really the dumb people :P
I wouldn't call them 'dumb', just ill-informed.
I used IE for years, I preferred it to Netscape, until Firefox came out (which I actually used since Phoenix 0.1!)
I don't think there dumb, unless of course they are the type of IE user that leave 20 toolbars installed.
I have to use IE for some government sites. But, other than that I really don't use IE that much. Plus there's some other sites where IE just works better or handles the scripts on the sites better. It's kind of silly to assume that someone's dumb if they use IE though. :S It really just boils down to the user's preferences and needs. I use Chrome, Firefox, and IE depending on what I need to do with them, but most of my browsing is done on Chrome.
I would not say they're dumb, however I would say they're foolish for missing out on better web browsers and the better interfaces and experiences these browsers bring.
By the way I use Firefox 5.0 :)
There was actually a followup on this story and the original article proved to be a hoax, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was true.
Actually there has been a study on this, believe it or not:

Yeap they are dump..
most think there is no other Internet Browser out there and they are happy with what they get so here I have an equation for you that proves my opinion:
IEusers are happy
---but---Happy=Bliss so
IEusers are blissed
---but---ignorance is Bliss so..
IEusers are ignorants
---whoever--- is ignorant lacks the element of exploration which is the main fact that humanity evolved to its level today
---so--- when all others keep evolving he/she stays behind at lower levels
---at--- some point the evolution gap will be large enough for him/her to get exposed as the man behind or the *lower man*
---so--- in the social surrounding that is translated as *dump* due to the persons choice to stop evolving and stop looking for something better and better
-Cheers!
well like its not that they have like a low IQ its just like all computers come with ie and people just don't want to change there browser even if its faster i think they want to feel comfortable with what they got its kinda like *o why would i have to download a new browser whats wrong with ie*
"Oh yea, their dumb"
*they're
LMAO... spelling FAIL.. lol
to be honest, I didn't even notice until this was posted.. lol
I like the "old school" feel about Firefox. IE and especially Chrome are too "facebook" for me. I don't like all that flashy design without functionality. Performance first! (and yeah, I know that Firefox isn't the fastest browser, I meant other kind of performance...)
P.S. Rodney, there captcha images are too naging. Why would I need to use 2 captchas?
My dad uses internet explorer, he is very educated , especially in computing, he uses it as he does not like mozzila, google chrome, or safari. THIS IS NOT TRUE !
Well, I would not say that they are more stupid, they wither have
a) no choice (in some companies there is no other oppotunity)
b) don't know enough about PCs to know how much better Firefox, Opera and Chrome are
That's the same as saying that people that are not tech savvy are dumb, which sounds like Sheldon from the big bang theory. The smartest people I've met in my life aren't very handy with technology :P
I build computers for a living and i have a degree in computer science and i use IE9.
I use Chrome personally, but the idea that IE users have lower IQs is pretty ridiculous. You may be able to make the argument that people who use IE are in general less computer savvy or technologically minded. However, I know plenty incredibly smart people (multiple PHD types) who use IE because they simply don't care about that sort of thing.
Funny how Firefox is more bloated than IE
I use Opera though
Most of my friends I know use Firefox or Chrome. My parents and older people (50+) do not have the need for change. Less icons on the screen the better :P. So they stick with IE. (answer = My god no !!)
Internet explorer is the best internet browser to download another internet browser.
Question: "Do Internet Explorer users have lower IQs?"
Answer: "Yes if they live in the US."
Using Firefox to delete unwanted comments.. lol
I'm happy with Firefox.
I think that Firefox is more advanced then Chrome and Internet Explorer, that's wy I like it.
It might be a little bit slower than Internet Explorer 9 and Chrome but I don't care about that.
i LOL'd :D anyway i don't think so but i don't know any so...
I wouldn't say that they are dumb they just don't know that there are any other choise of browser.
Well... I would say so just for using it to do anything other than download another browser.
I think Firefox sucks. The new IE is OK. I've been using Chrome for a little more than a year. Like it the best.
I wouldn't say they're dumb at all, but you could easily call them technically inept. Most sophisticated users will understand the benefits of other browsers, the rest just assume Internet Explorer is the internet. I agree that IE9 is an improvement but not the most user-friendly perhaps, IE10 will have CSS3 gradients finally (lol). Valid or not, the only reasonable case I've heard made for IE was that IT staff could prevent employees from installing potentially dangerous plugins/add-ons.
Any "smart" person wouldn't use IE and that's all I'll say.
No, I use Chrome, but IE9 is rather nice, can't wait for IE10.
