How do you setup raid 0 if you already installed windows on the other one?
Is Raid 10 as fast as Raid 0?
I have a question about RAID setups, is it possible to add 2 drives of the same size to an exsisting working pc, and configre these two new drives as a RAID 0? In the end resulting in for example:
1 TB exsisting drive( non-raided )
1 750 GB ( raided with below)
1 750 GB ( RAID 0.)
the reason i ask is I wanted to go with a raid 0 without having to reinstall everything and maybe just copy everything from exsisting single drove to the raid 0 setup and then remove the older single exsisting drive, running solely on the raid 0.
What I would do is create a complete system image of your existing 1TB HDD (so you might need another HDD for that), create RAID 0 array using the two 750GB HDDs, boot using the Windows 7 install CD, restore image on RAID 0 array. This way you shouldn't loose anything and it would be a rather quick transition.
It's "stripe" not "strip".
There is a spelling error in your Option ROM.
Also, Western Digital does not recommend using
their HDDs in any RAID arrays if those HDDs
do not support Time-Limited Error Recovery ("TLER").

Hi,
I would like to ask a question about RAID setup - I have been using a RAID array for about 2 years now, it was created thanks to my ICH9 bridge, so in reality it was more a software RAID than hardware (identical to the one in Q&A #354). Now I have got myself a Corsair Vertex 2E 120GB SSD, and found out that once RAID is set up on ICH9 or ICH10, there can be no other boot device other than RAID matrix. So here is my question - right now I have imported stripe volume in Windows 7 - so there is a full software RAID, but only one partition survived this process, and I cant format or repartiton rest of the free space - should I try to find a hardware RAID controller (and which should it be - I was looking for RockertRAID 640 but there are great problems with getting it in Poland), or should I stick to software RAID?
With respect JohnM
question , maybe its a noobie quiestion. whats raid ? and do you really need it ?
This might also help...
Short for Redundant Array of Independent (or Inexpensive) Disks, a category of disk drives that employ two or more drives in combination for fault tolerance and performance. RAID disk drives are used frequently on servers but aren't generally necessary for personal computers. RAID allows you to store the same data redundantly (in multiple paces) in a balanced ay to improve overall performance.

I just did raid1 via os in "disk management". Is there any down side doing it via os (windows7)?
Is it possible to not have the intel matrix storage manager not show up during boot? It increases boot time by like 3 seconds >:( Also, I have 2 150gb velociraptors in RAID 0 for the os and 3D games, 279 GB is not enough for my games, so I wanted to know if it would be better to add a third velociraptor or just settle for an ssd and use the hdd's elsewhere?
Adding another single drive will not give you that much more performance, but it would be the best bang for the buck. Because even the cheaper larger capacity SSDs will be very expensive.
Does it have to be formatted already? or can I do it with 2 fresh disks?
Doesn't matter :) Drives can be formatted or not, can be partitioned or not... Once you create a RAID array it will remove all data on drives. You will need to format the array after it's created though.
Finally its 1080p!! are your other videos going to be like this?? i sure hope so.
For now, probably only 1080p on the smaller videos because it doubles (approx.) rendering times. It also doubles (approx.) the files size so it takes much longer to upload.
