Its exhausting to seek out educated folks on this subject, but you sound like you recognize what youre talking about! Thanks

The router im using is an Apple AirPort Extreme (4th Gen) and i was looking at the v6 areas of the configuration panes. Its still a mystery to me on how they are going to fully roll it out over v4. Another unknown factor if there will be 6-to-4 compatibility, since not all routers/switches have V6 DHCP/DNS capabilities used for automated setups.
All of this reminds me of my country's "digital switchover", they're currently in the process of shut off the analogue signals in favor of digital ones, where I live, they shut it off late April 2011.
IPv6 is pretty much there. Most of the latest operating systems now support it from Windows XP onward. Aloso just about any router you buy will support it as well. In fact the infrastrcuture is all laid out for IPv6 already. So, what's the holdup?
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration protocol)and DNS (Domain Name System). All of the addresses assigned or translated in the internet are done through these two systems. While most servers use static IP addresses which can be set to IPv6 values, the DNS and DHCP servers are the older sort that only dole out IPv4 addresses. What has to happen is the entire internet must switch over to dual (IPv4 & IPv6) addressing in order to kick full IPv6 in. With the internet being the anarchy of servers that it is, it is very difficult to get everybody to convert up to using both styles of addressing. If it is done too soon, a lot of servers (many of them tied to very large corporations) will stop working if they have not internally implemented their full IPv6 support.
Yes IPv6 has been around for about 10 years now and i am afraid it will be at least another 5 before it can finally be kicked into homes worldwide.
Internet providers need to update peoples homes with IPv6 routers at some point right?
Yea, new routers on the way...
I wonder if there'll be a time when we need IPv7, I mean did we ever think that IPv6 was actually going to be needed?...maybe in the year 2111? or will there be no internet in 2111 but a new kind?
So like lets say my IP is 54.343.232.2, IPv6 would make it bigger, like 343.234.343.111.232? Note that they are examples.
Nope, it will be in hexadecimal code, like so: 0A-A7-94-07-CB-D0 and they will be stupid and GAY, but still...
Hai!

LOL Why coming all the way here just to ask for comments on youtube? It doesn't make sence at all.
If you are already here then comment here.
Yea, these "enable YouTube comments" comments make no sense whatsoever!
