Review category: Video Cards
Manufacturer info: More info
HIS HD 6870 Turbo 1GB GDDR5 Video Card might be considered mid-range, but it performs extremely well and is loaded with features. If you don't want to break the bank, but need an amazing video card, this is it. No matter if it's games, movies or other multi-display applications, this video card rocks.
is this worth the extra bucks over the 6850? because they are almost the same in performance to me
Will an AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2Ghz be enough for powering this card or will there be a CPU bottleneck?
Please, I'd like to know.
Much appreciated...
This quite a treat of a review, will ATI be tumbling over the Nvidia's supremacy over the gaming industry who knows.Question, Will this video card be a better investment compared to buying 2 5770's crossfire?,Since Black Friday/Cyber-Monday is approaching.
I'll stick to my nVidia 8800GT.
As for this card, the fan sounds like a jet taking off, at 3k+ RPM.
Impressive card from AMD but I will hang onto my 5870 for the next series I believe. Good review :)
Yeah.. the popups are getting a little overboard..
Install adblock plus in firefox if you have popups. As for the popups in the videos, deal with it. Small price to pay for a few extra t-shirts that keeps the website up.
it's not just the t-shirt pop-ups , the green , blur and red parts (links in the coloured parts at the top) block alot of the screen when watching the vids . also make them look like a 10 year old has made the vids , expected more from Rod tbh
Poor Anonymous, even a 10 year old can figure this one out. I can see that you are in need help adjusting our fine features. lol. XD
At the bottom right side of the video you will see a medium sized up arrow in a box. You will not be able to see all of these options until the video is playing. If you hit that arrow button with the mouse a menu will appear and give you a list of options. At the very top of this list is the option to "Turn off annotations." That will make the green, red and blue parts disappear from the screen like magic. ;)
sorry but the pop ups are getting annoying , i stopped watching 2 mins in due to the t-shirt ad etc
We have been spoiled over the years. Rodney doesn't like a lot of advertisements either, but unless you are going to pay the bills around here then get used to it if he needs to sell a few shirts to keep the lights on. And next time make an account. Anonymous users are just a dime-a-dozen.
Great review. Not very quiet at all, they shouldn't have gone with a blower style cooler. But performance is the best for the price.
This thing is impressive. This comes really quite close to 5870's performance, more so in crossfire.
Still, I'll wait until AMD releases its new line of processors. I've been wanting to buy a new motherboard too.
If you had not given this a 100% kick as product, I would have kicked your ass Rod.
What? lol.. sure sure Anonymous cowards! XD
I would still go for Nvidia for 3D.

Wow a great graphics card for a nice price. A real 5770 replacement.
So I'm thinking of upgrading from my 4870, and I'm not sure if it's going to fit in my mid-tower case and/or if I need to upgrade my whole system. I'm using an Intel motherboard with a 2.40ghz quadcore intel processor, so I'm not sure if thats going to be problematic with the performance. This is my first system I've ever built :\
Any thoughts?
Why don't they invest another $50 in their card to make a better cooling which is more quieter? :(
The audio is subjective. Factor in the distance from your computer, plus the case and overall it's not that bad. My HIS has a similar fan and it doesn't get past 60% fan speed. Although if you wanted to overclock and stick these fans on a high speed it will sound like a hairdryer! His coolers are wickedly powerful if you want them to be.
Hey Rodney
a comparative video comparing the HD 6000 series
with other cards would be nice.
Very nice review as always. I just have two questions:
1) If the 68xx series is "mid-range" which one will be the low-end, peformance and high-end cards?
2) When you compare the high-end single and dual GPU cards could you please compare their DirectX 11 capabilities with the 5xxx sieres since ATI/AMD claimed that the 6000 series will be much faster in the tesselation things
sweet card for the price but games FPS seem a bit low considering i want a 3 screen setup with AA and AF..
Does anyone have an idea of how much FPS you'd have on a 5760x1200 resolution with and without AA, AF? the 5870 seemed to do a decent job on that so maybe i'll wait for the 6900 series
very nice
very nice but might wait to see what the 6890'a look like for price vs stats and quality
One Feature which i Don't get is why Nvidia or ATi Don't allow, the abillity for us to install more GDDR RAM on to the card. now that's a feature worth forking out for. man, imagine it now... 16GB of GDDR ram. you would never need it, but still it sounds pretty cool. and maybe to have sockets on your GPU aswell to install new Processors. i guess that'll be more compicated, but it would be great to see.
nether mind, just ideas. can't wait to chuck my 9800GT into my Dad's PC and get myself one of these babies (AFter my GF BIrthday (Umm...)).
Hi,
Does anyone know why all the cards coming out seem to be 1GB cards. My present card has 2GB and I'm happy about it. I can't see me wanting less, unless there is a reason taht 1GB is better.
The 6800's are mid-range cards and so far I've only seen 1GB. If you want or need an upgrade to what you have now then you probably will need to wait for the 6900's.
100% KA, hot dam. Man there's too many choices in the $150-$250 category. Fortunately I only have $8 right now so I don't have to worry about deciding... LOL
It's taking too long Rodney, I hope it comes out before I shoot myself in the d!ck.
Hang in there man ;)
UPDATE: Video Review is going well, I hope to have it released later this evening.
Hurry up already.. we don't have all day. lol
Would be nice to see some benchmarks of two of these babies in CF. :)
Yea, that might happen and I'm also hoping to get a couple of 6850 video cards for crossfire benchmarks.
So many screen connections!
Yeah when opening the box be careful not to damage the product, to hell with cutting your finger off. We only need 9 of them...lol.
LOL... If you're looking for bloody fingers...
Looks pretty good but i think ill wait a month and then buy the 6970 when it comes out since that will be even more powerful than the 5970.
Rodney, Im waiting to see your review. But I dont think is worth upgrade changing my 5850 for this.
yeah, probably not worth it for you. I want DX11 badly, so anything for me is an upgrade. The 6870 matches nicely next to the 470 and the price is much cheaper and uses less power ect..
oh rodney, so excited about it, last time i was that excited was for star wars episode 3 in DVD
Can't wait to see this review.
Unboxing video will be posted shortly and I should have the video review up tomorrow.
