This extreme cooler features two fans. An initial NF-P12 fan blows cool air into the first column of fins. Then a second fan, the Noctua NF-D14, pulls that air and pull/pushes air through a second identical column of heat pipes and fins. This does two things at once. It takes some of the workload off of the initial fan creating less noise. Second it spreads the heat across two towers of cooling in which each almost equal a NH-U9B’s worth of cooling surface! You’re getting two coolers for the price of… well, two.
From the top of the NH-D14 CPU cooler, you can see that Noctua has gone with a, much more aggressive, teeth like pattern on the cooling fins than the tamer ripple effect on the NH-C12P. You can see the visible embossing of the Noctua logo pressed into the top fins of the cooler along with the six heat pipes that are bent into a large “U” shape to pass through the CPU block at the bottom.
At the bottom, you will find a very similar scenario to the NH-C12P CPU cooler. The bottom finish is exactly the same as the Noctua NH-C12P. Same finish, same pre-mounted arms and same spring loaded screw/nuts.
As stated previously, the fans of the NH-D14 are pre-mounted. While most every cooler from Noctua utilizes a two piece wire bracket system, this cooler actually permanently mounts the wire harnesses to the fans via some small black pins that the wire brackets are bent into. Now when the NH-D14 cooler is naked of its fans you can see the pre-mounted rubber anti-vibration pads and the two towers of cooling fins.
i have the Noctua NH-14D installed on my Asus Rampage Gene 3 and in a Coolermaster HAF X ,but the Coolermaster makes so much dust,so i would change my Case to Lian Li PC-X500FX TYR Super-Case Midi (Window Edition) could you think that i have problems with my Noctua-NH-D14, i mean i have bought that 2009 and im very happy with that :D
Yes its top dog at the mo from the reviews I've read this will sell well.
It's about £60 in the UK and I will buy it for my new build just to test it
out when I OC my i5 2400.
I'm gonna build a system later in the year and here's the list
CPU= i5 2400
MB= Asus P8P67 PRO B3
PSU= 750w
Ram= 1600MHz DDR3 Corsair XMS3 4GBs
Cooler= Noctua NH-D14
Crossfire setup also
You might want to wait around until the socket 2011 Sandybridge CPU's hit the market ;)
MrGreen, Thanks I might well do that do you know if they come out this year because I'm saving up
and it will probably be later in the year when I get started on it!
Best Regards
Wakkierob
Noctua is awesome
It looks like the back of an ugly refrigerator from the 50's...
And i bet it sounds like one too.
These fans are dead silent. I don't even have a DB guage that went low enough. All I can say is that both my PSU and definitely my GPU fans were louder than this handsome colored fan set (yes I do like the colors, shoot me!). :D
Por acaso nao Pedro...
What is "Por acaso nao Pedro?"
Lies! I have one and these fans are the quietest in my case.
I got the nh-d14 in my i7 950 system. Great cooler. Large as a brick though. Means I can't use the side fan on my 1200, but that's more a case error than a cooler problem.
The fans are bad colours, but I've got blue all over the case + cathodes, so the whole inside is bathed in blue and it covers up the shit brown fan colour.
Keeps the CPU nice and warm, even when overclocked.
Yea, brown is not my favorite color either, although color has no bearing on performance of the product.
Obviously I meant cool.
These fans are great, just wish they had other color options.
Paint them.
What about a fan made of aluminum material and a mirror finish? :)
I'd like to have that. Besides, even a black color is boring. :)
*all of this will be fixed later tonight*
Images fixed. :)
Looks great! Good job Zach. :D
nice but to plain for me and its not the best the V10 is the best aircoller and with its price drop its exelent valua for money. Over all a 100% kick ass product.
p.s. I am using FF4 and the zoom works fine/
The D14 is an amazing cooler.
According to this review it performs better than the V10 and according to newegg it is also $30 cheaper than the V10.
Yeah results pic doesn't work with Chrome 10.
Also we have no idea what system your using for this other than its AMD. s1366 i7s are kinda the industry standard for CPU cooler performance comparisons.
I'm using Chrome 9.??? and the pics work just fine with Notscripts and Ad-block plus.
Edit- some problems have been found.
Nice review Rodney, a lot of good feedback for these Noctua products. I personally prefer Antec ventilators. I must admit i have not tried Noctua yet… My question for you, your personal preference: Antec or Noctua? Based on some of your previous reviews I’m assuming that you might be a bit of an Antec fan, not necessarily for their vents, more for their cases and power supplies. Please let me know. Thanks
wtf man, you are short of video camera memory ?? i expected a bigger review on youtube
make more reviews with netbook, notebook. . . . . .so where the heck i putted my motherboard try ?!?!
to lame i can't comment on your youtube videos.
p.s. sorry for non-english words.
Results are a big question mark...
You HAVE to put the test system specs, otherwise it has no sense...
What CPU? What MoBo? What Frequencies? What vcore?
So many questions...
Wow, can't see how I missed that! Will update ASAP when I get back to the desk!
The zoomed image closes on me too. Using Firefox 4. I am only using ad-block plus.
Issue fixed. Was using a slideshow timer. Timer removed, image stays :)
I'm using FF4 with ab-block plus and no-script and it all works just fine for me. Your ad-block plus is most likely blocking some scripts. The only thing I have to give access to with ad-block is pricegrabber. People should just try and disable their add-ons for now and see if the problems go away. If that does not work then try refreshing your cache files.
Edit- some problems have been found.
That's because FF sux. Use Maxthon! :) Trust me, you will never go back to IE or FF.
I have the problem with Chrome 10
I could have posted this in the beta thread, but are you using a script that causes the image to disappear and return to the regular page that I'm in? I find myself clicking an image a lot about 10 to 15 times or so and it gets so annoying trying to read the benchmarks. I'm using Firefox 4.
Odd, seems ok for me using Firefox 4. Anyone else having this issue?
Yep, Im having that issue with FF4 as well.
Works for me on FF4. Are you using no-script or the like?
I have my own mini-review on the Noctua NH-D14. Here it is: http://www.rodneyreynolds.com/forum/posts/2011/03/22/noctua-nh-d14-mini-review
Excellent review Zach and fantastic coolers :)
I picked up an NH-D14 a little over a year ago. The best air cooler ever. But so freaking huge.
^ That is why I prefer thermalright products compared to noctua but performance wise I don't think anything can beat the D14.
