AMD has announced that they will be supporting the FOSS (GPL) bios Coreboot! This is a huge win for enthusiast builders. This means that those crazy hackers can get down to making custom overclocking or gaming-tuned features.

AMD slashes processor prices

"Earlier this week AMD quietly introduced new processor pricing lists and consumers can look forward to significantly lower prices, particularly in the mid-range.

Athlon II prices have dropped between 2 and 25 percent depending on the SKU. The popular Athlon II X4 645 dropped from $112 to $102, while the energy efficient 605e dropped from $122 to $98, making it a rather good deal. Dual core Athlons saw cuts between 3 and 12 percent, while triple cores dropped between 5 and 25 percent.

NVIDIA announces SLI support for the AMD platform

"We are pleased to announce that SLI has been licensed to the world’s leading motherboard companies for integration onto their upcoming motherboards featuring AMD’s 990FX, 990X and 970 chipsets. Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock, and MSI are among the first motherboard manufacturers to offer this new capability, with more coming on board shortly," NVIDIA said in a blog post.

The HIS HD 6790 IceQ X Turbo 1GB GDDR5 Video Card is an excellent product for anyone who doesn't want to break the band, but still have all the features of the higher-end products. Performance is on par with other video card competitors, but what you'd expect from a product in this class.

AMD and Fresco Logic gains USB 3.0 certification

"It's been a slow progress, but we're finally starting to get some alternatives to Renesas USB 3.0 chips and today the USB-IF also announced the first USB 3.0 certified chipsets courtesy of AMD. Fresco Logic also got its FL1009 USB 3.0 host controller certified today which is a viable alternative to Renesas two port solution and it will allegedly bring better performance at lower cost, all of which sounds like good news to us."
