"Advanced Micro Devices said that making special-purpose GPU-based accelerators compatible with CPU sockets makes no sense. The approach proposed by AMD is vastly different from the one that is allegedly offered by its arch-rival, Intel Corp., which recently demonstrated its Knights Corner accelerator in an LGA form-factor that is used for microprocessors.
"Intel and Micron's joint venture IMFT has announced that it has produced a 128Gb die. A package combining eight such dies together would be small enough to fit on a fingertip and boast an unprecedented 128GB capacity. "According to a VR-Zone.com report by our old colleague Lars G. Nilsson, it appears Intel is pushing for PCI-Express x2 interface simply because PCI-Express x1 just doesn't provide enough bandwidth and PCI-Express x4 is just simly too wide and complicates things, chip wise.
