So for those of you who don’t know what Star Citizen is:

So who here has joined the 400k player base already? Have you even heard of the game? Is Rodney going to play it? I’ve bought a 325a and a Freelancer and I can’t wait to start playing around with the game.
I’m kinda following this game coz i’m a scifi fan. Just saw the new landing video and this game looks really promising.
I wonder what the recommended system requirements are? He keeps saying how awesome and detailed the game looks, but it’s no use if you need some crazy 4 way SLI configuration to run it, lol.
game looks amazing.. I will also be interested in the requirements. I hope its good considering the amount of $ they have raised lol.
It can’t be too high if they want to aim the mass. Mantle support can help too if you are an amd dude.
Mantle is actually a pretty big deal. nVidia is working on their own software interleave as well, as DirectX is good, but generalized, where something written for the GPU can see huge performance leaps. I have several games with Mantle support that just coast on my R9 in 4K, but struggle at any resolution beyond HD in DX.
My last Ati card was the 9600 so i don’t know how practical mantle is, but i always welcome AMD’s new tech stuffs because it forces nvidia to evolve too, just like cheaper amd vgas prevent nvidia to raise it’s already too expensive costs.

I hate that Mantle (and whatever nVidia is working on) even exists. It just creates issues and a deeper battle between the 2. I am hoping DX12 will bring a large enough improvement that Mantle and nVidia “whatever” wont matter. So we can just choose a great performing GPU and not w orry that game X runs better on one than the other

You make a point, but the good thing is that if these chip-direct APIs work so much better than DirectX, it places pressure on Microsoft to regain the margin. You might not be old enough to remember one API that made Microsoft wet it’s pants: 3dFX’s Glide. It destroyed the two competing APIs on the market, DirectX and OpenGL 1.0. OpenGL added changes that were implemented in the Glide API itself (and they became somewhat unified when Glide went open-source), and Microsoft didn’t catch up until Direct3D 5.x was released.
It’s about time for this to happen again, and this time Microsoft was ready for them, as most of these specialized coding methods are embedded in the upcoming DirectX 12.
Competition between AMD and NVIDIA is good for us. With the new maxwells out maybe AMD start to creat energy efficient and colder GPUs too on the usual under NVIDIA price same for software side.
I’m waiting for raptr silver 🙂 Star Citizen is the first choice
mantle seems to be a good feature…. I usually play battalfield 4 but the real problem is the game not the api
Looking forward Star Citizen, Can´t wait!
