Hey all, it’s been a while! Recently, I decided I was going to build a retro arcade machine from scratch, i.e. building the cabinet, wiring the buttons/joysticks etc. I will be using MAME for this, and I was wondering, should I go with a Raspberry Pi or should I go with a full blown windows pc? If a pc, I will obviously be using a dinosaur since I’m only using it for an emulator, however, a Raspberry Pi is very cheap.
The Raspberry Pi v2 is actually quite capable, and most MAME ROMs will run fine on it. In interest in saving cash for the rest of the machine, this is probably the route to go. Add a good quality flash module for larger storage for ROMs, and you’re ready to go!
i second eire1274 on that the Rasberry Pi 2 is really capable for simple task and that small for factor make so much a difference for some project like old console emulator comparing it to old full tower or even OEM towers…
I would use the RPI2 personnaly for that situation. Even V3 is quite a good choice and not that expensive too !!
do any of you know of a good place for tutorials on setting up a Pi with retropie or anything similar? I’ve never used one before so it kinda spooks me a bit.
