With video production and cryptocurrency mining pushing my FX-9590 to the brink, the weak pump on the Corsair H105 is proving to be overwhelmed. With 4 fans in a push-pull configuration, I’m still commonly seeing temps upwards of 75°C reported by the CPU die sensor during heavy loads. The simple fact is that the water volume speed is simply not fast enough to properly cool the cold-plate.

So, it’s time to step up.

The DeepCool Gamer Storm CAPTAIN 360 is a self-contained liquid cooling system, with a very powerful pump module and a 120mm*360mm radiator. I will be making a slight modification to my Cooler Master HAF Stacker 935 case to allow a 3-in 3-out push-pull arrangement.

This module has a sufficiently large gain in pump draw (and size), going from 0.34A draw on the Corsair to a solid 6.0A draw on the DeepCool. With the larger cooling space on the radiator, as well as the expanded water flow and aggressive cold-plate design, I’m expecting a major difference in cooling this 220W monster.

Expect a full review as well as an install video in the next few weeks.

Have fun, be safe! Sláinte!

Delays, of course. Work that didn’t give me free time to TEAR MY PRODUCTION MACHINE APART! I will be doing a full review, so expect the review video in a new post under the Member Reviews subforum within a week or two.

I had GREAT HOPE to get this done this week. I have my new hybrid, and it will be my workstation while the big rig is down.

But I managed to break not one, but two molars. My tongue and jaw are sore, and speaking is difficult. I may just film the whole deal and do a voice-over later.

After several simultaneous health issues throughout the family (me included), I have installed the Captain 360 and am just now burning in the unit (thermal compound, and blowing all air out of the loop). Video will be up TOMORROW on the “Member Reviews” subforum.

I am so sorry this took so long. It was in fact a fairly no-nonsense build, but I had no TIME!

Install is completely bedded in, and I will have the video done here shortly. I had a flare and have been bed-bound for the last few days, likely because I was moving heavier items. If you didn’t know, I have been diagnosed with severe fibromyalgia, and it tends to really interfere with everything. Thank you for your patience.

Update: the pump has seized, and as a result I do not have my video production machine. I am in the process of filing an RMA with Deepcool, so we will see how this process comes out. Expect both a product review (which was excellent before the pump failure) and a customer service review COMBINED!

Long delays suck, but this wasn’t DeepCool”s fault. In fact, their customer service is excellent, considering it is international. Family health issues happened (on 3 fronts, this time), and I didn’t have the time to dedicate to replacing the equipment.

Anyway, the new rig is in, and has thoroughly embarrassed the performance of the first! I will be re-recording some of the video, doing a new audio over-track, and hopefully will have it up in the next week. Watch “Member Reviews”!

Sorry about my absence. My motherboard on the big rig blew, and I am waiting on the replacement.
